the secret is testing. you got to test the colors, the words. one word makes alot of difference (e.g repair you car and fix your car, essentially means the same thing, but fix your car has a higher conversion).

and the people on facebook are not in a buyer mode, so linking them to your sales page won't have much effect. nevertheless facebook is a great place to start if you don't have much budget.

I agree it depends on your niche and the level of effort you're able to place in marketing your product.

Facebook is one of the platforms we use to promote our businesses, along with google, local websites (some of our businesses is aimed locally), twitter and linked in. Basically - anywhere we can get a good presence without spending too much money. All the click throughs are important, and Facebook is just one good source of visitors to our site among many.

It also depends on your budget and how much they'll charge you per click.

Facebook is the largest ecosystem from the web. I've heard plenty of people getting millionaires from targeting Facebook traffic/people. If you are smart enough, you can do mostly everything.

Facebook can be quite good but you need to be able to write effective copy and have good social skills to really get people liking your things.

Lifeplayer is absolutely correct. You have to do it smartly enough to get more and more traffic from it. For example if you have too many accounts for your product, then make sure you have added as many friends as possible from your same industry. When you are promoting fan pages, dont forget to do viral marketing campaigns. After the update of the fan page by Facebook, viral marketing is the best option to attract more and more eyeballs for your fan page and then eventually for your site ;)

I think FB is more of a place to promote yourself not your products. Bring value to people by sharing what you know or how you did something. It's easier to get friends that way! After you have a lot of friends you can mention your products....by the way.....

Create an Iframe welcome tab with a free giveaway product in return for a name and email to your autoresponder. Then start traditional email marketing giving your new list members lots of valuable content with the odd sales link put in for the monetization part of your business.

    Simple yet very effective:)

Facebook is the new social media of everything. You can sign up and start promoting anything to any audience if you know what you're doing.

Television has a wider reach than radio and print. But not all advertisements on TV are successful or effective. It's more than just the medium, you know. It's the same for IM. Facebook is like the TV of traditional of marketing. But you have to think about the target audience, the content, the sales pitch, etc.
