I submit to all the free directories I can and to a good number of paid-inclusion ones as well. I have a site that ranks very well in multiple competitive keywords. 45,000,000 to 130,000,000 results returned in Google and the links are 99.9% one-way links mostly directory submissions and some natural.
I have probably submitted to 100 different ones for my own sites and 400 different ones for my clients since I am always looking for industry specific ones for their sites.
I submitted one of my new sites to 100 directories (free and non-reciprocal) Saturday and got 7 approvals within 24 hours. The interesting thing was all the approvals came from high quality sites (homepage PR5, or PR6), not as I expected fast approvals from new directories. I got a few permanent PR4 one-way links. I received about 40 emmail notifications of submission. I haven't checked all submissions yet. Many directories add links without email notifications.
i submitted my site (which ive now sold) to over 100 dirs all by hand, now its time todo it again with my new site
CanadianEh, thanks for your list. Some of the directories I submitted was from your list. I checked a couple of more directories and I got 6 more approvals. And 2 rejections from email - one asks for fee even it's optinal and another aks for reciprocal link. Next time, I'll try to give reciprocal links back and may get faster approval
Thanks. I would be curious which ones rejected your submissions. I am doing a major update of the lists. Brent
CanadianEh, FYI, I PMed you the two directories. I have a list of directories at http://www.4th-media.com/directories/
Thanks dejaone. Glad to see the bad directories didn't come from my site. I took a look at your list of directories. Before seing it, I was impressed with myself before because I spent the last 3 day creating a new list with over 300 directories in it. It seems everyone has a list now. I am disappointed that your format and content looks very similar to my directory lists, for example http://www.best-web-directories.com/free-directories.htm .
CanadianEh, I have a list of 2,300 directories stored in my database and I've reviewed about 300 so far. Each directory entry has about 40 attributes. The format displayed was adjusted a few times based the feedback from users.
Easily 150. I have several sites that seem to get updated monthly with lists of free directories that I use.
A while back I create a Directory site in which most of the pages look like this: Now 4th-media.com comes up with a site that uses the same basic design for their website lists: Is it just me that feels that there is something not right here?
I can certainly see your point CanadianEh, some of the headings are the same, however those attributes are going to be common to just about all (good) listings of directories IMHO.... I wouldn't worry, your resource is excellent - mainly _because_ you don't list every directory on the planet. When I first started submitting to directories, I used your list. Inspired me to make my own directory!
I'm sorry that you have bad feeling. But you have to understand that the designs for the same object (directory) are always similar. For instance, all search engine use site: and link: command and the similar layout on SERP. In fact, the two design aren't the same. 1) mine is sorted by alphabetic letter, your isn't 2) it has recent addition list, yous doesn't 3) I have BACKLINK_REUIRED, yours doesn't 4) I have INNER Page Required, yous doesn't You can find all similar attributes (HomePage PR, adult site, gambling site etc.) on other lists.
