I keep seeing ads that promise to submit my website to thousands of search engines each month for around $20. Is it worth it?
Just once... if you update the layout of your site then submit a new site map, but other than that if you update your content regularly the spiders will keep coming back
Do not waste your money on search engine submission. Technically you never even need to do it as long as you setup a Google Webmaster Central account then Google will know your site exists and will come and crawl it. You can also setup a Webmaster account with Bing. The other search engines should also naturally find your site as long as you have a link or two pointing to it. Lots of times they will even find it based on domain registration records.
Once. Thats it. Once you get into Google, Yahoo and Bing, the remaining search engines will list you on their own - eventually!
Ideally, you do not need to submit your website to search engines... SEs find websites across the network naturally. But it is advised to submit your website (just once) so as to speed up the indexing. You can submit the Sitemap more than once on every update of your website.
It actually requires a certain monthly expense to run a search engine. Most search engines on the Internet run out of other search engines, they don't actually have a search engine of their own. Even Yahoo has just made a deal to run out of Bing, that leaves us with just only two major search engines today - Google and Bing. Thus, if your site is indexed in one of these two, you should be all set to go.
you dont need to submit it to major SE. just to google and forget the rest. they'll do it themselves.
total waste of money. search engine submission is an ancient method that is not needed anymore. back in old days when there was no need to for link building, google would show your site under search result based on what they have in their index. they would not find your site unless you submitted it to them. these days, since you need backlinks to get ranked high, there is no need for search engine submissions as google will find your site and index it following the backlinks anyways. people who sell search engine submission services are preying on noobs and are pure scammers (or they dont know what they are doing)
