1970 the democratically elected Chilean president Salvador Allende, was a threat to American business interest. So what did they do? President Nixon funded the CIA to overthrow this government and a violent coup took place in 1973 and was replaced by the military dictatorship of General Pinochet. And how ironic that this Coup happened with planes throwing bombs onto the presidential palace on September 11th, almost thirty eight years ago. The official death toll was 3197 thousand, almost identical to the numbers killed in the U.S September 11th 2001. Several hundred citizens were gunned down in the Santiago soccer stadium which was later turned to a concentration camp and torture centre. Others were shot in the street, kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered. This U.S backed brutal fascist regime was maintained for 17 years through terrorism.

Was it your intent to highlight every battle the US won during the Cold War? If so, Kudos! Interesting that less civilians died in Chilie than in Cuba(a battle we lost). Interesting also that Chilie enjoys prosperity today, as opposed to Cuba. Thanks for the pat on the back!;)

The profile of sociopath is someone with an extremely high IQ, has learned impulse control and makes a charismatic and effective leader? When this person wants to tell you that they are honourable, they will look you directly in the eye, show tears of patriotism and make you believe what ever they want you to. Most sociopaths are never discovered as they have mastered the art of manipulation.

Only republicans would herald the delay of Democracy for The Americas as a victory - while serving their own self interest.

Palestine democratically elected Hamas to power. Where did you get the idea the US automatically embraces any Democratically elected leader?

O, the history lesson for Democracy might remind you of your previous support for Saddam Heusen among others and the corresponding results. Pleasant Dreams and Reminiscents for the Principles and Policies that have made you what you are.

People seldom recall the Founding Fathers stressed insistence for minority rights despite the predominance of Democracy.

The real problem here is Why US is doing all this in the name of hunting terror. I am not a big fan of US, but what I appreciate is that they know how to protect their citizens, at least they try to do that. They show their concerns about their own people. However, US also have this habit of interfering with other states, and that is not good. Hunting down Osama was justified as he was hunted for what he did to WTC in Manhattan, but the Iraq war was not justified. And somehow I feel, Iraq war started all this. There is a big mayhem right now, but that could die down if US handles it amiably.

LOL. How much American capitalist bought from communist China? How stupid someone can be to deny a history which is less than 40 years old?

Deny? The age of the history is exactly why I embrace it. Less than 40 years ago, we were at war with the communist regime in Vietnam as part of the Cold War. A scant 4 decades later, the USSR is gone, and Vietnam has a thriving capitalist society (just like China). Oh sure, they wheel out the old Communists who still hold office in name only, but those numbers don't lie. Free enterprise is alive and well in both countries.

The difference is, China didn't foolishly expend 1.1 million lives of their own citizens in the process by some idiotic "Sandaled Warrior" program.

putting a spin on it again. Officially China is a communist country which means a communist country kicks USA ass according to your logic. Lets continue with your logic, Germany ánd Japan didn´t lose WWII since they are bigger economies than France or UK.

Kick our ass? Based on the size of it's economy? Perhaps you should have a look at those numbers, as you are sounding very uninformed. You might also want to note that China's growing economy may be more capitalist than the American economy at this point.

Japan went to war with France? You are losing it Julian. Again, consult your history books, but the groups you are looking for were called "Allies" and "Axis", and yes, "Allies" won.

Moving forward to the Cold War, a war between Communist and Capitalist ideology that spanned the entire globe, I reference the size and B]Capitalist[/B] nature of Vietnam's economy to point out the obvious winner. Didn't you read any of Popo's long and boring posts about the Domino Theory and all that cr*p? By that logic, it would seem Cuba was one of the very few battles we lost, though Venezuela seems to be failing of recent.
