hello everyone, this is my first thread and i hope im in the right forum. i believe im not the only one here who was cheated by scamming website. i was buy 1 year hosting from someone (i do not mention the name/website for follow the DP rule). and not even 1 month, this person close the service and take away my money. Do anybody here have plan how we punish this people? sorry for my bad english.
If all you're going to do with your life is seek revenge over tiny amounts of money then you'll never accomplish anything. Learn what you can from the experience and move on to something more positive. Is it really worth the time to post here, plot revenge, and spend time doing it. Surely you have better things to do?
Forget it and move on. Better buy hosting account from reputed sites like hostgator, bluehost, dreamhost, etc.
yep hostgator is what i use and so far so good. Just forget about the other sad thing there are lots of companies like that.
thanks for all positive respond. you all said to forget and move to the better hosting. dont you all think even here in DP, there is a lot of hosting company spamming their website. after get some buck, their run away. if we keep forget and forget, the cheater will get richer and we still poor. not all people can effort the price of stable hosting like hostgator and i hope there is a way how we can punish this people.
If you want to waste your time chasing scammers and ghosts, then knock yourself out...I doubt you will accomplish anything, and you can find quality hosts for like $10/mo. If you can not afford that, then maybe you should not be online trying if you do not have any startup money.... you are worried about people taking $5-20 - well I have scammers that take $500, so what you are dealing with is nothing. Just make sure when you buy something, use a credit card, so this way, you will have a chance to dispute the charge, and move on with your life....
i thought some people misreading this topic. let me clear it, the title is how to punish scamming website. not do we need $500 to start a business?. thank you.
Yup not much you can do unless you paid via Paypal. If you used Paypal you can file a dispute IF it is within their time limit. If not put it down to experience and move on.
You are completely correct, but that doesn't change anything. Look at the hosting forums. What do you see almost every day? Here's a selection from Page 1.... "Need Share Cloud Hosting" "Help with hosting providers ( shared or simi dedicated )" "Advise on hosting" "Higher use MySQL database host" "Cheap web hosting" "Best Web Hosting Solution With Free Domain" "Free Offshore webhosting Accounts" "Need suggestion" I gave up after the top one-third. All of them with unrealistic expectations and not willing to pay much - or anything. There are always people who will take advantage of others and that is unforgivable, but there are always people who will make dumb decisions and never learn from them, there will always be people who think the cheapest is the best and think with their wallet not their brain, and there will always be people who despite all the evidence to the contrary and all the warnings on here from other people and hosts who will continue to look for the cheapest and think they are getting a deal You aren't going to change human nature. There are consumer protection laws in many countries, some of them are very strong, but since most people don't know their true rights scamming companies and their owners will never be caught out. I know for a fact that many terms and conditions for UK hosts wouldn't pass consumer protection laws if they were challenged, but they still have their unlawful terms and no-one seems to do anything about it. C'est la vie!
Since you are already aware of the fact that digital point will not mediate in disputes between you and the other party, the only option you have is to try and obtain a reversal via your payment gateway (assuming you are protected), since most offer a buyer protection of some kind, and paypal do not offer seller protection on digital goods. Your final option is to try and successfully mediate some solution between you and the third party. The only way you can efficiently punish a scammer without doing something illegal is to successfully obtain a refund, as most scammers only care about money, and any other method of punishment that can come to mind would be classed as either illegal, immoral or both.
Report it to Google and its hosting. Either way, contact the site and see what's going on. Scamming should be punished badly.
Surely if they have closed down the service, there may be no ability to absolve anything via reporting it, since the service no longer exists. It wouldn't stop them setting up another website under a different IP etc. It's the same with a lot of big businesses... if any go bankrupt you can be left without your product and unable to get your refund. Reporting it will only potentially get results with evidence, if the party is still offering the service in question. At the end of the day, this user still has the ability to change a username and still start afresh... the only thing you can do is learn from this, and take the bad experience and put it behind you. In future either head to a reputable trader, or check out the iTrader of users. Just don't let a few bad experiences assume everyone is a scammer...
