So until we dont stop those type of selling gambling links etc., they dont allow us to make transactions? Anyways, thanks for sharing the information.
Yes. they seem to be doing a manual review of the sites they mention in the email. as long as there is an active gambling category they wouldnt make the account active.
If this is affecting gambling and casino advertising, it would be interesting to know where the line is drawn on this one. Are you going to be able to accept advertising from sites that aren't to do with gambling themselves, but which carry extensive gambling advertising themselves? It occurs to me that casinos and their affiliates are going to need to find other avenues for their advertising, and this could cause a lot of problems.
I am confused if you don't have the paypal banner you can accept the money? Probably they review your site when you receive a payment from a paypal account marked as gambling. Paypal Sucks Big time.
Someone with legal background needs to check this out, it doesn’t seem to make any sense, I thought the law made it that its prohibited for people to deposit money from a US account for the purpose of gambling, and for gambling companies to receive / pay money out for wages, winnings etc, not a ban on gambling companies advertising & promotion activities which is effectively what buying a link is !! Someone maybe post this in the legal section see if anyone can shed any further light on it
Thanks for the heads up, I've yet to receive that notice. However, I'm a little confused as to how paying for a link equates to anything they've listed in that correspondance.
The Policy prohibits the use of PayPal to send or receive payments for any form of gambling activities, including but not limited to payment for wagers, gambling debts or gambling winnings, whether conducted online, in person or through any other means of communication.
The payment has absolutely nothing to do with gambling activites/debts/winnings...etc.. Shouldn't that fall simply under advertising?
i raised this up with the guy who responded to my ticket but so far he hasnt answered it or he is avoiding it.
It looks like there is a lot of confusion over this issue. There is a new USA law that will soon prohibit credit card companies from processing payments from offshore gambling sites. That, I assume, would include PayPal transactions. Here is a legal opinion that I found: http://www.out-law.com/page-3637 Here's another: http://www.economist.com/business/displaystory.cfm?story_id=7997055 I don't think you necessarily have to dump your current gambling category, but it would probably be a good idea to post a message in that category indicating that you can no longer accept gambling sites. I eliminated gambling sites a while ago, but it hasn't stopped gambling sites from submitting to other categories, such as Video Games. Because my site policy states that I do not accept gambling sites, I immediately reject the site and refund the payment.
I have always excluded Gambling sites from my directories because they tend to be full of nothing but affiliate links, etc. This is another step in cleaning up directories, which is never a bad thing
YOu know, I think that's a bunch of crap and it's going too far. Paypal hasn't allowed use of your credit/debit card on gambling sites in a long time, probably a year already.
