    Blog commenting is Good.
    Blog comment spamming is Bad;)

    However, I've found Social bookmarking and Pingfm more effective for link love.

    It's really not about volume of backlinks, more the quality of them. I'd agree with the post above which says that social bookmarking is more effective, but dofollow forums are a great method as well. Put a link in your signature here and you can rack up so many links.

    commenting is good but remember try to comment sensible stuff and not just things for the sake of it

    I don't think there's any wise way to use auto-commenting!

    However, one wise way is to make relevant and value-added comments on blogs that have high authority ranking and lots of followers...
    like Tim Ferriss or Shoemoney.

    the right way of blog commenting (like sharing your thoughts on a certain post) is acceptable :)
    blog comment spamming is not

    Google is your best friend to scrape/harvest blogs related to your site, filter the low PR blogs and leave relavant quality comments on the high PR ones. A mix of dofollow and nofollow works the best.

    Blog commenting is a great way of helping with backlinks and helping to build communities, contacts and people you can deal with in the future.
    Spamming negates the possibility of getting contacts; treat other people's blogs with respect if you want respect your self.

    Adding to the point above: try to comment on as many blogs as possible in similar niche. multiple incoming links from different sites are better than multiple incoming links from 1 site.

    Blog commenting is good. But it requires huge time. You have to find a blog where you can post your comment. The blog have to be relevant, have to be do follow and your comment have to be outstanding and relevant. But this all gonna work when it got approved. SO, you see, needs a lot of time with a good luck.
