Its a shame I need paypal...

.. because they really are pathetic.
To cut a long story short -
my account got limited because I accidentally was using the first initial for my last name instead of my full last name. So 3 weeks ago they limited my account.
Since then Ive gone through their whole process. Verified bank account, credit card, faxed passport and licence and called them around 4 times to clarify things.
3 weeks later, they still wanted another fax. This time my CC and bank statements. So i sent them 5 days ago, no response. Called them, they said they didnt receive it and that I must send it again.

All this because I need to change my displayed last name. They obviously know who I am, they have all my personal details and documents, yet they STILL have my account limited with no end in site!
Not to mention I conveniently had just received $300 in there when they limited it which I can not withdraw now.

I know there are sites dedicated to slamming paypal out there, and now I can see why.

I just wish there was a worthy competitor

Use Moneybookers if you are frustrated with PP :). But yes, your sales may go down as PP is still numero uno

agree... paypal can be a complete pain. went through a huge ordeal w/ them and had $50 stuck in an account. it took 180 days and then they released it to withdraw.

They just went through a big ordeal and paid a huge fine for holding up accounts and limiting them without cause. They tend to do that at whim.

There have been competitors out there but they usually fold quickly.

Yep, i guess thats why paypalsucks.com exists
I know they have frozen peoples accounts with thousands of $$ in there, its really just blatant theft but there doesn't seem to be an authority out there who will take action against them. If it were a bank or similar company doing this, there would be outrage but paypal seems to get away with it time and time again.

Expect to get your money back 180 days after your account was limited.

It won't be reinstated. You can believe that my friend!

I spoke to a supervisor yesterday then sent a fax directly to him in the US. He said he would process it straight away. 12 hours later I've still heard nothing!

That's a good idea saadahmed. At least until PayPal straightens out longroad's identity.

re: refunding a payment when you account is limited

i do believe that this option has been removed within the last year or so. this is certainly true for a uk account.

re: never getting your account back once limited

i have successfully brought 3 seperate paypal accounts back from limitation. even the ones where they request your suppliers inside leg measurements.

use the contact form and select the option 'make a complaint about paypal' - this gets your email straight to someone who a) knows what they are doing, b) has the power to do what they know they should be doing.

unfortunately the phone guys and gals are generally clueless regarding the whole limitation and reinstatement process.

original poster > just out of interest how did paypal discover your name was incorrect, i have an account that withdraws to a business name and it actually hits a normal current (checking account).

Very true.. the people on the phone have no idea.
I had to send yet another fax yesterday.. Im glad I now know how to send faxes online.. but it will take them at least 3 days, if not one week + to get to this latest fax. Mind you, the latest fax was the SAME documents i sent 3 weeks ago!
Paypal just dont have their head screwed on the right way.

ddanger - They knew my name was incorrect as I was only using my initial as my last name, rather than the full last name. Bad mistake on my part I know, but honestly, does it really take a month just to prove my last name?? They have seen every document i could possibly send, yet still want more. Its beyond a joke in terms of privacy, or lack thereof.

If you're using a business name, that is legit.

I am very disapointed with paypal myself. Recently they held $30.94 from me because of the other buyers accoutn being hacked. Wel paypal sent them back the money and they got the goods of mine as well.
