Aging the domain increases its value because an aged domain is much more easier to rank quickly.
I once get PR4 for my 2 years old domain just by adding good content and without backlinks.

However it would depend much on the specific case, I can rougly estimate that the domain doubles its value every 2-4 years of non-dropped registration.

In my experience the age doesn't ad too much value by itself. If the name is pronounceable and was used for a real project, it is indeed worth more. Otherwise don't think so. There are plenty of domains expiring every day, some of them are more than 7-10 years old. But only a small portion is registered again.

The dropped domain instantly looses most of its aging advantage in SEO. You will get benefit only if domain is continuously kept live.
