    Hi

Could someone please advise me whether it is worth creating backlinks on .edu & .gov blogs if the links are no-follow?

    Thanks.

Its worth in regards of backlinks only. Because the link will be counted, be it no-follow or not no-follow.

But its worthless in regards of PR or satisfactory SERP improvement.

    Thanks RamCity.

So really, no-follow backlinks, be it .edu/.gov are only useful for getting traffic to your website only. So in terms of improving your SERP results, it's a bit worthless.

    Back to the drawing board!

    Regards.

Sometime you need to pay more attention for pulling traffic, regardless of the link's rel attribute. That is why Facebook & Twitter sharings are one of the most popular ways to bring traffic. But Facebook and twitter links are with no-follow attribute. Till people are using it. Bringing traffic and improving SERP are different things.
Hope you are clear now. :)

Never mind you get nofollow links from . edu/.gov, their links are more valuable than you get dofollow links from cheaper websites.

You are correct upto maany extend. Highly reputed sites with no-follow suit better than sites with not no-follow attribute and with low reputation.

Just stop with this PR and Dofollow crap.

You want links from a related quality website. Every backlink counts for bots, but not all are useful and in fact, with some, you might look spammy (link farms etc).

So just take care of getting backlinks from useful websites, PR0 or 10, dofollow or not.

It doesn't matter if the edu or gov link is no-follow, the thing is that they are linking to your site!!!

No-follow links does not count as backlink by Google. So they cannot pass link juice. But no-follow links can still give you referral traffic. So its worth getting them.

Have a look on the insight of Google Webmasters Tools. You will see the no-follow links too.

Thats obviously not. If you get link from .edu or .gov or like other website, its nothing any value in regards of PR or SERP rank. Google only discovered this rel="nofollow" tag not to flow PR juice

.edu and .gov links are worth when compared to links from other sites. Also, it should be do-follow.

Whether those links are do follow or no follow, whether the site is page ranked or not....keep this in mind...

That it is a waste of time and money (if you pay for such services) to get backlinks on .edu and .gov sites.
    Traffic? Practically non existent!

That is the big secret no seller of these types of links on these types of sites, those who sell such lists, etc. will tell you.
Pages are hidden, rarely if ever a real human being finds them and reads them.

If they can bring you conversion, then that'll probably be worth it! If it's not, then it's typically not worthy.

This is always such a touchy subject.
Google pays no attention to 'nofollow' link so these links are useless when trying to improve your Google ranking.

Other search engines pay no attention to the 'nofollow' attribute and so these links will be of benefit.
Remember, just because Google is the largest search engine it is still not the only search engine and your SEO work should be aimed at users of all search engines.

    Hope this helps.
