I am practicing polyphasic sleep and wanted to introduce it to you guys. I assume not many have heard of this but the concept is rather simple.

This is how most people sleep:

    This is how I sleep:

Basically, all you do is take naps several times a day. You have to be very strict with the times and there are some tested plans to choose from.

Image being awake 22 hours a day:)

If you are interested, I can answer questions here:)

Yes, there's Wikipedia article about it. I also read a book about it.

What this type of sleep does is it cuts out all unnecessary elements of the sleep (basically everything but REM). That way you are sleeping more efficiently.

    @om39a:
    What's your question?

I had a friend who did this for two weeks, and...well, let's just say his behavior became fairly strange. How long did it take you for it to seem natural?

Yes, I take four 30min naps every 6 hours. It's not complicated at all and a nice way to separate the day especially if you have a lot going on.

It takes some time. The book I read said that the full adjustment takes ~30 days. In the first week or so your brain is in survival mode.

If you don't give in, it goes from "I need more sleep" to "How can I sleep more effectively". The first week of adjustment is like hell but it's totally worth it.

Even if that was true, I'd gain 7 years compared to regular sleep. I think sleep is such an important topic, think about how much of your life you will spend sleeping.

There are no documented side effect. The studies are saying what happens to a regular sleeper if he only sleeps 2 hours. Those are the downsides of sleep deprivation.

Sleeping 2h with this method is NOT sleep deprivation, you are fully rested.

Not applicable, at least for me. How can I sleep or even take a nap when I'm spending almost 9 hours working in the office? :p

What if I don't want to sleep at all?
I don't feel like sleeping at night time. :p When I sleep at 6am then I get a sound sleep of say 6 or 8 hours.
But if I go to sleep at 11pm I wake up at 3 am. :(

@Digital_shubhi: The best advice for you is to try to try to keep awake all day and , naturally, you will be tired at night. TRY TO STAY THE WHOLE DAY AWAKE and try a warm shower and eat something with suger because when the glucose in your brain is low you cant sleep :p

2 hours sleep per day would be extremely unhealthy. Your body needs sleep to function properly.

That used to be me. I couldn't stand mornings and was very active at night. Also, there's the possibility that you don't have a 24h rhythm, but that's rare.
