It had nothing to do with supremacy, it had everything to do with US foreign policy at that time. And instead of wasting trillions of dollars and people's lives, it could all have been avoided by changing foreign policy.

His issue prior to that was the bond between Saudi Royalty and the USA. Attacking US interests because you dislike your country's love is the US is hardly something we could help him with by changing our foreign policy. He'd be better off attacking Saudi interests, but then his funding would die off and he would end up beheaded. No IsraeI, your real issue with the US, and all western nations including the one you live in, is the fact our culture is tolerant and secular. Its very existence is anathema to you because it breeds rebellion in places you think are exemplary. Suddenly the women start asking for an education, or want to shift down from a burqa to a hijab. Before long, those rebels start asking for leadership that doesn't share your oppressive ideology and you cant have that. You could try to continually block out western culture as you've done for centuries, but now it arrives at your doorstep over the internet and it is nearly impossible to keep out. If you weren't Islamist(not Muslim, Islamist) before the internet, guys like you have no choice now. To you, its kill or be absorbed by a culture you loathe, but most people love. Osama targeted democracy and freedom. The USA are a symbol of those things, even if they are widely used in other western countries. But Spain, England, Germany, France have been hit as well. Because they are also democratic and free countries. Islamists are not against the USA. They are also against the USA. They are against what they can't have: Democracy, freedom, whisky and girls. Even if western Europe has much more of those things if you compare with the USA, the US are still the biggest symbol of freedom. It wouldn't make the same impact hitting Stockholm.
