Is Bing better than Google in some respects? - A NewYork Times Article.

Discussion in 'Google' started by anandsoft, Apr 27, 2011.

Recently, there is an article on Google Vs.Bing in NY Times. Excerpts from the same:

"Once you hit Enter (in Bing), however, you can’t help noticing Bing’s more concerted effort to get you answers faster. To minimize the clicking, the hunting, the dead ends." It means that Bing provides faster results compared to Google?

    Another advantage of bing:
"As on Google, you can search for videos. But on Bing, you can preview the results far more efficiently. "

    Here is another:
"The rest of Bing’s advantages are supposed to stem from four huge search categories: travel, shopping, health and local business information. These sorts of searches produce special displays that trounce Google’s eye-glazing text lists — sometimes."

    However, G has advantage like:
"Google is still way ahead on other kinds of searches, like movie showtimes: You get a complete table of nearby movies, complete with trailers, reviews and even links to IMDB.com"

The article rightly points out that some of the deficiencies of Bing:
"It lacks some of Google’s mature additional services like book searches and Google News "

    Finally, the article concludes:
"People won’t start dumping Google en masse; Google is a habit. Everyone already knows how to work it, and it may be built right into your Web browser. But if you value your time, you should give Bing a fling. "

Note: However, with current Panda update, it is felt widely at Webmasterworld that G is broke with its search results. This may give clear advantage to Bing unless G acts fast.

its quite good explanation for bing.. but still google gives what i search for.. and I'm pretty satisfied with it. And about bing videos, most of their results comes from youtube.. so why use bing??

What bearing does the Webmasterworld crowd have on Google?

When regular users abandon Google en masse, then we'll talk.

Until Google will continue sending me 10-100 times the traffic of Bing, I don't really care if NYT thinks Bing is better.

Back in the year 2000, it was webmasterworld that had started writing about Google updates and how the updates were going to benefit the Internet search quality, and was followed by web developers worldwide. Most webmasters think (and it is true to a large extent) that webmasterworld was one of the main contributors for the success of Google today. This is because, WW was able to bring together a large pool of experienced web developers and discuss various aspects of Internet search, and Google updates. Even, Google had a direct rep at WW by name GoogleGuy or something (don't remember exactly) who answered several questions from the webmasters.

It is widely felt after Panda, that Google needs to address the apprehensions of the web developers in the same way that it was doing before.

Bing isn't totally terrible. If they could just learn to crawl the web, find and index new pages faster, and sort them or rank them in search results much better I would use bing more often.

You also have to take into consideration that Bing had been found stealing Google's search results recently... The parts we like about Bing could just be re-skinned Google :)

I can't post links yet, but search Gizmodo for an article.. there was a big scandal back in February.

I'm Google for life. Back in 1998 they were a god send compared to all the other jokesters at the time. Google will make the same improvements in time.

I'm going to have to say no. Google is just all around better. Bigger, better , and more traffic. I don't think that bing even compares currently. Of course they can in the future but right now google is king by far.

Interesting, why do you think that is the case? Their referrals don't convert any better for me than Google's.
