Are there any good SEO books that are out there that are actual books I can read in my bed not on the computer.

All the one's I Find are on the computer, just wondering if there are any hard back books out there.

One I started reading recently: "Search Engine Optimization: An Hour a Day," by Jennifer Grappone and Gradiva Couzin. It's fairly good.

But, I have to tell ya, that as far as SEO books go, the best one I have come across is Planet Ocean's ebook (www.searchenginenews.com). Aaron Wall's book follows that (though it is a bit less readable). Both are updated regularly. If you're tired of reading them on your monitor, just print them out and put them in a binder. Happy reading! ;)

I was thinking of doing that, but thought there might be a book already out there for sale.

I recommend "Search Engine Marketing, Inc - Driving Search Traffic to Your Company's Website" by Mike Moran and Bill Hunt. Published by IBM Press. 2006.

This is more of a "big picture" look at SEO. It does not give specific little tricks. But better helps you understand search engines and optimization at a bigger level. You can learn your own tricks through experimentation and from others on these forums.

Also covers quite a bit on PPC marketing.

It's pricey at $50 USD. But i think its worth it.

SEOBook for sure. If you print it out, and bind it, it's book-sized. You can pretend you bought it that way. :p

I’ve red Aaron Walls’s SEO Book and thought it was pretty good. The book covers all aspects of SEO and the good thing is you can read it all in one day. Check out his site www.seobook.com

I agree with axemedia. I met Bill Hunt late last year and he gave me the book. It does not really delve into issues that make articles obsolete once search engines update their algorithms and forgo older methods.

Even when I was traveling to Europe last Feb (from this part of the world), I did not mind bringing the book with me. It's a good read.

Hi, I'm a contributing author to the Planet Ocean book. Thanks for the mention, trentcw! We do have many readers who print up our ebook and read it that way, so that might work for you. If not, we have a 6-month money-back guarantee :)

I can also vouche for the other books mentioned in this thread as quality resources. One other that deserves mention is Dan Thies' Search Marketing Kit. It's a ringbound book, very good, though a tad pricey ($197.00) compared to the other book mentioned here.

I've read SEO For Dummies. I have both editions. I've read them both - they're very good at explaining the basics. They give you a good running start to start doing white hat SEO.

I also have read SEO Book. Definitely much better than SEO For Dummies. I just took the PDF to school and printed the entire thing off :-D

Make sure you get the most recent SEO book out there, as all search engines are extremely versatile, meaning they change all the time.

I am really happy to see the people here are discussing about the e-books.
But if you people believe me, the new webmasters or the people who just started thier carrer wont have that much amount of money with them , so that they can by the book and read it.

I request you all good webmasters and the knowledgeable people present here to share some good e books which are available free , so that the starters can also have thier luck to read and grow..

As per title thread it's about books (tangible ones) and they're almost always not free.

I agree that for starters who want free stuff, a lot of credible sources can be found for free over the Internet. Webmasters or people who want to start their careers in this industry or in any other, need resources just as students need books in the library. These resources can be free or come with a price.

    :)

For a physical book I'd recommend Street Smart Internet Marketing by Justin Michie (can get from InternetMarketingBook.com or Amazon). It covers more than just SEO (though I'm sure you'd find the rest interesting as well). As bed-reading books go it'd be a good one - I found it quite enjoyable to read, not 'textbooky'. Also it's 20 bucks, not as pricey as some mentioned here.

I am also a fan of 'hard copy' being an older fart... just not too many good ones out there.... so I opt for the Print it out method... not quite the same.. but it works

True to all comments submitted that there are a numerous amount of actual "books" available on SEO. The only problem is catching up to one is relevant to today's internet architecture.

If you want to get away from the computer but keep up with seo, give podcasts a go.

http://www.webmasterradio.fm has a line up of people in the industry.

seobook.com is not priced like a regular book but it's worth it. Lifetime updates makes it worth the price. The book is never outdated. Just check out his blog, its a new supplemental page everyday!@! You can print it out...it is a long print but IMO worth it if your serious.

"being an older fart" *haha* that was a nice one , really. Anyway, I recommend and have a suggestion for hard printed books because this is what you asked for after all - Search Engine Optimization for Dummies. Even if it is a low knowledge level book I am sure you will find something useful and interesting in it.

    Regards
