Does anyone have any tips on viral or maybe an ebook that they know of? Even better than that would be a company who specialises in it. Any help would be appreciated!

I honestly have to say that to get good viral marketing you have to have some medium to good public relations to have it really take off, so one viral campaign isn't enough for a new site.

Joint ventures are a good opportunity to get something viral going and help the buzz spread. Try approaching some bigger names with a really awesome offer they can't refuse. It will take something big, but then anything viral is usually big anyway. That's why people talk about it.

Brad Callen did an awesome job of creating buzz for his Keyword Elite software. He used a blog to build up anticipation before the launch and gave people plenty of time to talk about it. He also used his subscriber list to drop hints and make people really interested.

Free services coupled with newsletters can work great here.

Humour works miracles. Taking advantage of the times that people surf the web because they're bored at work, or have a spare five minutes, or are looking for something to liven up their day.

Videos, images, games - anything that people can email to each other to play with or laugh at will spread, as long as the content is really unique and fun. For example, search for "virtual barmaid".

Have you checked out the 15kchallenge blog?

The challenge is over now, but if you read the blog from the start, you'll find a ton of good practical advice on viral marketing.

If you have a really excellent idea, this is probably the worst approach to take. I mean, most people here wouldent spend a hundred bucks on a website idea but a multimillion dollar operation who caught whiff of "the next big thing" would probably throw millions at it and crush you before you launch.

I'm not talking about approaching Amazon or Ebay or something. I'm talking about approaching some of the bigger names in your particular field. For example: If I was developing a new tool to boost traffic, I could email some of the internet marketing gurus with an offer like giving them 90% of the commission if they help promote it.

I found this ebook on viral marketing 2 weeks ago. It's from Harvey Segal and it's called "The Ultimate Supertip" and it's free.
This one is the best I found until now. If you're still searching, go to the link.

I think Jib Jab hit one out of the ball park with the 2004 elections. Make it funny on a topic people care about and make it controversial so the mainstream media picks up on it and you'll have a viral campaign that can't lose!

That's definitely for sure. Usually, the best are the catchy, trendy things.

    Many good ideas here also.

Viral marketing is most effective if you have a specific audience that you are trying to reach. Not every single niche can successfully marketed through a viral technique ;)

Give something of value away for free. People will tell their friends... wham! It goes viral!

I did that with my free coloring book.
