This karma thing has gotten way out of hand.

This "karma" that's floating around DP is absolutely ridiculous. You get negative karma for absolutely everything. I absolutely do NOT care about how people perceive me over the internet, because they are irrelevant. We are not friends, buddies, associates, or anything of that nature, so my status on a forums means nothing. how many posts I have is something I don't particularly care for. Neither is collecting a bunch of green bars in my control panel.

I have received about 13 negatve points in 2 different threads. One here:

Both of which I see absolutely nothing wrong with. (If you see something wrong with it, then post here.)

As stated, what you think of me fall's on death ear's because I will most likely never see you in real life. You will never be one of my college proffessors, my boss, family, girlfriend, or anyone else that matters.

What I do care about is that I will have my membership here at DP revocated when I hit negative/red rep.

I have never given ANY 0 rep here at DP as far as I can remember and for people to sit there and tick away at people's karma point's is crazy/

What should I do now? Not post? Whatever. Back to the books, I have class tomorrow.

 

I even get negative rep for listing a few advertisements about a promotion I had sometime back....

Some just replied "crap" in the comments or just left it blank....

 

There are lots of DMOZ editors here at DP. Reading that post, I am sure one of them gave you a negative because they did not agree with your comments. You probably will get just as many greens from the anti DMOZ crowd. Thats the way it seems to work in that section of the forum.

Oh and to elaborate. The first link I posted with teh DMOZ editors, I understand that everyone has their own opinion and is entitled to it. But as soon as one expresses said opinions as a post on this forums, you are subjected to having negative karma. Something that I have no control over, yet can so greatly affect your membership here.

DP is one of the best forums out there (In my opinion) I dont post as much as I read because I feel that there is a lot more information to take in. I can say that the reason I like this forum is because most of the members are adult. I'm only 19 but I appreciate that as opposed to being a member on a forum where most of the people are young teenages, and that kind of response is expected. But...we're all adults, so why can't we all act accordingly?

And just to prove my point I got negative karma for this thread (The first post) as well. A site feedback. How can constructive criticism be met with a negative response? This section is titled "Site feedback".

As for your second point, the DMOZ vs. Anti DMOZ crowd...it hasnt worked that way for me. Overwelminlgy one sided.

Caring is not the point. Pointing out that rep is not very professional nor relevent is the point. But that is hard to get across to a click. Those in the click call those out of it babies. Those out of it complain because they thought they were at a professional forum and hope the owners, Shawn, Get it.

It's apparently Califorincation. But Shawn allows the exposure of scammers to be used as an excuse for infractions, another childish vBulletin feature, so don't expect much change.

BTW im a dmoz editor..of a popular category..but i guess i haven't joined dmoz to earn few extra bucks...i just joined coz there are lots of lazy editors out there who didn't even bother visiting their control panel even in a month...so that atleast i can make a small section of dmoz a bit more efficient!

Dude you are funny... you make a thread saying you dont care what people over the net think about you but you whine about a couple of red points? Many of us have gotten much more than those 13 points you got lol, a lot of them just come for no reason, because someone was angry. Get over it and dont make a fool out of yourself by coming here and telling us you dont give a * about us

Oh btw, if you really cared about online business you WOULD care what people at DP think of you, this place is for webmasters, like wall street is for stock holders.

Yep, you have missed the point. I said that on a personal level I do not care because no one here will have any affect on the important aspects of my life. I recognize that everyone will have their opwn opinion about any given subject and on a forums people will share. That's what forums are. But what I do care about is that you can be banned for having negative karma.

And you get negative karma from people not agreeing with what you have to say. This is a forums, which is a place for open discussion. So I would expect people who are supposed to be at a higher level of maturity to recognize that.


I am not "crying" because I was given red karma, because I have a dynamic IP address and can simply make another account. But it's bigger than that. I'm here to show just how flawed rep is since it can lead to loss of privelages and maybe even your account.


After browsing through this section I've realized that I am really not alone. Many people recognize the karma/point systems flaw. Too bad nothing can be done about it.

Thanks to everyone who realized I didn't make this thread to "cry" but to expose a serious flaw.

 

lordmenace just leave it all this rep points are for fun.I do get huge rep reps with dirty comments that is anonymous offence.If u know who is that guy giving red rep and why he is doing also we cant do anything.
