    No kidding Capt Obvious.

Now imagine if you could buy pot on every corner, legally? Usage would skyrocket and so would the cost to law enforcement.

Loss of economic and educational productivity, increased crime, medical issues, and the host of other problems, similar to what alcohol has caused.

Overall, the cost to taxpayers would go up if legalized because usage would multiply.

And don't give me the "filling up our jails." There are hardly no pot smokers clogging up prisons. The average pot smoker usually gets about a $100 fine and is sent on their way. The hard drug users who not only abused drugs, but stole and broke other laws because of their addiction are the ones in jail.

addicts get sent to jail because they need to steal to pay for their addictions, if drugs were cheap and legal, there is no need to steal

most alcoholics are able to have jobs, because they can buy their fix for $2.50 at any corner store, and thats easy to pay for even with a crap job

there is alcohol availible on every corner now, so what? Are saying if crack was legal you would go smoke some?

Marijuana is cheap. I don't know where you get the idea that it's not cheap from.

Yes alcohol is available on every corner, that's why on every other corner you see a billboard showing the picture of someone who drank and drive and killed some pregnant women (or some other sad story).

Now legalize pot, and you'll have twice as many billboards.

I like how all the stoners will say "alcohol is legal!" Yeah, and look how much harm it's done. But alcohol is far too embedded into society to ever ban, that's why it remains legal.

If we legalize pot, it will become mainstream like alcohol and we'll basically have the same problems on our hands as we had with alcohol, except times two.

And the crack comment is just stupid. Crack cocaine cannot be used responsibly, so there is absolutely no reason to legalize it. Pot can indeed be used responsibility. It's just that SO many people don't use it responsibly, just like alcohol.

We don't need to "times 2" the problems alcohol has given us.

Life is about making choices. If you wanna smoke pot, your gonna get your hands on it regardless of if it's illegal or not. Your a muppet if you would only try something because it all of a sudden becomes legal.

besides, regarding the paranoia subject. yeah that's for people who can't handle their shit. if your job is driving you nuts and you can't handle it, then quit. ain't the government's fault if you spiral outta control from psychosis.

it's called freedom ppl. the choices are there, it's up to you to pick.

    edit:
btw, dcristo, was just from sydney&melb a couple weeks ago. and let me tell you, the hydro is chronic. and cheaper than in the states. props!

From the tone of your post, it's obvious you're some teenage or college age stoner who has in fact not done any research.

Marijuana impairs your judgement. No, not in the same way alcohol does, but it causes much of the same social problems alcohol does.

Yeah, but if pot was legal, MORE people would try it, that's a fact.

A lot of people don't smoke pot simply because it's illegal, that's a fact.

Others may not care about the law, but most do.

Heck, if you could buy pot at your local gas station, I might be tempted to try it.

But since it's illegal, I've never even considered trying it and I have no clue where I'd get some if I really wanted to.

yeah if you buy a dime bag of schwag. now that is probably not so good for your health. see, if you've tried kind/hydro i'm sure your opinion on the matter would change completely. it costs friggin over 400bucks an ounce man. tell me that's cheap. a couple years ago gold was cheaper than that.

If they concentrated less on trying to fight the war on drugs, and more on the actual long term side effects of using, then we may actually get somewhere.

What are you basing these facts on?

Legalizing it wouldn't make it anymore available then what it is now, just a shift in distribution channels.

Yeah, and all alcohol is cheap too, right?

Ever had Louis XIII by Remy Martin?

The "good stuff" would still be expensive for the same reason they make $10,000 bottles of cognac.

pot is main stream, when I was in college it seemed like everyone smoked it, your missing the point drugs are availible and being used even though they are illegal

It would take the millions that are spent on it out of the hands of violent criminal organizations. It would end the murders associated with crack dealing. End the colleteral damage of gang wars.

alcohol was illegal at one point, and all it did was empower the mafias selling it, what is responsible use?

Every landscaper I worked with when I was younger was stoned while on the job, do you think they would have become brain surgeons if they didn't smoke?

yes, i'm not gonna deny that marijuana impairs your judgement, but i have never heard of an accident solely from the use of marijuana. maybe when you combine with other drugs such as alcohol.

i've been smoking marijuana for over 15 years. do i have a 150k income? no? do i love life? yes. am i detrimental to society? not that i can think of. the reason i am alittle furious is because you assume that the use of marijuana will suck the life out of you. have you even tried it?
yeah sure it causes an addiction, but it is more of a psychological addiction. i mean who doesn't like feeling good? there is no adverse effects from short term use. if you start getting symptoms of psychosis and sto using it, you will not go into withdrawals.

besides, you probably don't know this, but the government has shut down tons of medical research regarding the beneficial effects of marijuana.
have you ever asked why? watch reefer madness and you'll understand a little bit. propaganda.

now i myself am an advocate for medical marijuana and marijuana for recreational purposes. you can look me up under NORML, find my phone number, have a civilized chat and i'll try to watch my tone this time. you can pm me for more info.

I don't even know why I'm replying to you, every post you've made is false logic. I don't even know if you actually believe the things you say.

Fact: Pot is NOT mainstream. Many use it, but it's not mainstream. Mainstream is when it's widely socially acceptable, and used on a regular basis by a large portion of the population (30%+).

What do crack dealers have to do with pot dealers? Most pot dealers are non violent. Most of them are just people who smoke it and make a few extra bucks on the side. Nothing like crack/heroin/other hard drug dealers who are organized criminals, with guns and gang territory.

It does suck the life out of you. People use it as a way to escape reality. Same as alcohol.

First you're using it once a week, next once a day, and before you know it, you've wasted 1 to 2 hours a day for years under the influence, not caring about anything.

Add up 1 or 2 hours a day for years, see how much wasted time that is which could have otherwise been used productively.

You know, some people who are stressed out read books, paint, or exercise. No one needs to smoke pot to ease the stress, there are more productive things to do.

Remember what I said though: I agree that in a totally (anarcho-capitalist) free country pot and all drugs for that matter should be legal, but America is not like that. Our citizens are constantly using our government to fix society's ills. As long as our government is being used as a "babysitter" pot must stay illegal.

Pass amendments banning welfare, tax payer funded healthcare, and all other non-essential government services and handouts, and then you can have your pot. Otherwise no way.

smoking/ingesting pot also stimulates creativity, so people don't use it "to find your happy place" and "escape the harsh reality of life". it's not like heroin.

in fact people on the creative side actually use it not to "just have a ball". it actually helps stimulate the right side of your brain.

and yes i will not argue with you regarding the impairment of certain functions of the left brain, which accounts for logical thinking. but in retrospect, it enhances the function of the other side of the brain. think creative expansion. and of course you don't need it to achieve this, but in many cases, it definitely helps.

Not POT SMOKERS. Those people in prisons are heroin, crack, meth users.

The point is NON VIOLENT DRUG OFFENDERS are clogging our prisons. This has several very NEGATIVE effects:

    1. Taxes are through the roof building prisons, employing prison officials, and paying for the inmates free ride.

    2. The prisons are so full of non-violent criminals, the violent criminals are getting out on early release right back into society to commit more crimes.

    Real smart isn't it?
