Hi all, I just wanted to hear your comments about the +1 feature rolled out by google recently. For those who are unaware of this feature kindly refer to the following url - http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/03/introducing-1-button.html What do you think? Does it indicates that google wants to put more emphasize on social factors influencing SEO. Give me your answers.
I think it's pretty cool, but let's see how much cheating goes on. Glad it's not impacting the SERPs.
Interesting .... but odd at the same time? I didn't even know you can link up with your friends via your google login? how does this work?
https://profiles.google.com/me/createprofile/ I misunderstood. I thought the +1 values were going to be global, but only your friends will see if you gave a +1 to a result they also came across. Pretty weak.
It won't impact on SERP index. Google is not going to be defeated by blackhats. In fact it is coming up with actions against the blackhats.
It's a first step. Eventually, it wouldn't be surprising to find out that Google collects all such user "likes" and factors them into SERP ranks. Another factor that will probably get even bigger with time--BOUNCE RATE. There is only ONE solution to both scenarios: Focus on QUALITY CONTENT - give your users the content they came to your site for. Chase loyalty and authority instead of quick bucks and you'll be safe from Google's future mood swings.
yeah webmasterlabor I do agree with what you have said and this is the reason why I am worrying that blackhats can cheat by fake +1 liking. don't know what will happen, however, would like to say thanks to all those who replied and shared their thoughts on the situation.
Same here am looking forward too this new feature Google has provided. Cant say much about cheating, but surely its going to have an effect on SERP'S one way or the other.....
I'm a little worried about this change. Major companies like "Coca-Cola" could potentially have enough of an audience that they could have their pages liked in to the top result for anything, if "Likes" get factored. For instance, the term "coke poison" lists two pages at the top that suggest that Coca-Cola is extremely bad for you. If Coca-Cola were to put a blog up and then title a post "Coke Is Not Poison" and listed "coke poison" as a keyword, I'd say that a majority of their fans would go on to "Like" the content over time and perhaps propel the blog posting over all the other relevant content. It could be a bad change, overall.
Nothing to worry. Likes are not going to change the ranking of Index. Google algorithm is not that much buggy. Nor Google is going to tolerate the spammers.
