How do I wash an email list?

    I have a list of about 5,000 opted in leads that were provided to me. I'm not sure of the age of these leads. Basically I want to wash them and verify that they are still valid and remove the ones that are not longer interested and opted out.

    What would be the most effective and economical way to take my list and refine it to filter out the good leads from the leads that are no longer interested?

    If I just send all of the leads an email asking them, I fear they would just be annoyed and request to be taken off the list. What is the best approach here?

    You can send just a letter with the news. The reason of sending such letter could be:
    - new design of your site;
    - new service;
    - site anniversary;
    - Christmas :) (it is too late, but for future) and others holidays (Independence Day);
    - great achievement of your site (company, etc);
    - etc.

    There are email verifiers, just google it.

    Most of them are premium ones and you'll have to purcharse them or find on warez sites.

    They are probably crap if someone gave them away, but you never know, good luck if you are going to go through this list by hand, an autoresponder service will probably reject it if the list is not clean, aweber certainly will, this would easily be the fastest way.

    You said "provided to me"

    They were provided to you for a reason...

    I am if they are any good at all...

    how do you know that you did not get emails as a result of spamming?
