Im at a young age and i can frankly say that sometimes social networking sites eats a bit of my time instead of optimizing my seo sites and doing a link campaign. But anyways i just want to know your opinions?!
I must be too old for that sort of thing. I've been on myspace all of about two minutes. I'm barely over 40 and in internet years, I'm over the hill...
I've been using MySpace to build traffic to my sites outside myspace. Not convinced that it's providing any significant ROI, but we'll see...
i am 18 and for the past few months i am wasting my time hanging out in orkut than concentrating on my sites. nice topic. it just takes few weeks to come out from it.
I like keeping my del.icio.us profile up to date and submit my new content to the likes of Digg (using a handy tool I've built!) - but I'd say the time I spent on social networks compliment my seo work!
I've seen some folks really make some money on myspace, I do have a few backlinks on forum members pages, and i made a blog with silly lil comments, people can take and use on their friends pages, which give me a backlink to one or two of my sites.. but I think a friend of mine said it best, myspacers are stuck in there, it's like pullin' teeth to get them to click a link and visit a non myspace site hehehehe .. okay.. I do still try from time to time As far as effecting my SEO time, or other parts of my business, it's more forums like this one hehehe I come to learn, but i read and read and read and read.. rather than implement.. read.. implement.. read .. etc heheh
yeah, i have to admit sites like orkut can be addicting especially if your friends comes bugging you asking for so many testimonials and so on. But im glad i'm out of it now, better concentrated on link building and seo. btw how is the response of myspace users ? what is your product and targetted demographic anyways?
Social networking sites gets instant and huge traffic, but seo gets u free and permenant traffic from search engines.Yes u can use bookmark sites when site is new till u get good ranking in google.
yes, I have to agree with the other old geezers on this thread... MySpace must define the generational divide, because i have no interest in it at all. on the other hand, psyberweb, you're way younger than me...and despite "wasting time," as you put it, you still appear to be about 1000 times more ambitious and smart than I was at age 18. I wouldn't worry about it.
I have also a profile on orkut and i visit it to 1-add more friends and make group all friends 2- in one click I send them some interesting article related to my site with a link to my site and 3- logout thats all
