A friend of mine just brought me a book about the fast food industry in America. I was not happy with what the book demonstrated. I've always known that fast food isn't the healthiest stuff in the world, but it is worse than I ever imagined. Has anyone ever noticed that commercials in the US constantly advertise pizza, burgers, and other unhealthy, and NEVER has commercials about vitamins, or foods that are actually healthy? This has to be a conspiracy. I've been wandering why I always feel so tired, even when I wake up after sleeping like 7 hours. Does anyone else here at DP go through the same thing? I think the reason this happens is because a lot of people are eating junk. Caffeine, burgers, pizza, candy, chips.........they all taste good, but they are terrible in the long term. Have you ever noticed that Mcdonalds or Burger King never lists the nutrition facs on their foods when you go buy it? I bet you if they did, you'd probably stop eating it. This book is an eye opener. I'm about to start eating real food. I ate raw fruits today with almonds, and I feel better already......
There are no vitamins, energy or nutrients in fast food, or any processed foods. It's just saturated fats, salt and sugar. Makes you fat, gives you no energy, too much sugar and salt, and you're soon hungry again because the body is not getting what it needs. I don't live in the States but I've been there a couple of times and good lord, never seen so many fat people. What are the figures now? 70% are overweight?
I try to stay away from fast food as much as I can. Like DLGx said, I could eat a meal at Mcdonalds and get hungry an hour later. When I eat a home cooked meal it keeps full for over half a day.
This is the thread I waited for!!! Toall, first sorry about my bad English, but I know much about balanced diets. Oh my god you eat fast food? Smoking is healthy if you compare it with mc donalds burgerkings KFC's or wendys food. Did you know that in fast food restaurants there are only about 15-20% of meat in a burgerslice? The rest are mostly gene-manipulated potatos, wheat and chemical ingridents. I am a fastfood rival. Slowfood or (homemade food) is much better, it tastes good and is healthy. Nothing agains burgers and pizzas, I love eating them. Why? There is no reason not to eat fat food. And girls don`t say now: "Fat and meat are unhealthy". While talking about balanced diet, people forget the mental factor! If you don`t like what you eat and if you feel you are missing something, you wouldn`t become/ stay healthy. I could write a book about this. I think I ll start a webpage about balanced diets and medicine food (using the right herbs and spices to avoid illnes, or what to eat when you are ill) . Not the crap stuff about buy this pharmacies or eat these vitamin pills and so on. This is very typical for american people. I hate this mindset. If you have any question about alimentation feel free to ask me, just PM me or post into this thread. Yours Michelangelo
im also totally addicted to mars bars, chocolade and other unhealty foods. here is what works for me: i buy lots of fruits i like and spread them in my house in places where i spent a lot of time. then i rather grab some fruit if i feel like having a snack than get up and get some bars out of the kitchen.
Read some Dr Bernard Jensen books, like the Bowel health one Tesla. An intelligent guy like you should knock bad habits once and for all when you've seen enough evidence. You're not just destroying your body but also ruining the environment and putting a lot of dollars in corporate pockets. Once you've seen the light, there's no way back.
Are you reading fast food nation? I read that book and stop eating fast food for like one month and then i started eating again. It is just too expensive and time consuming to eat in a restaurant...but i try to eat healthier fast food like Subway sandwish with lotz of veggie in it that flim is total bull crap. He gain weight not because of fast food. He is just overeating.
You don't have to eat in a restaurant, just go to a (super) market and buy fresh stuff. It was obviously dramatized to make for good TV - like him throwing up in the car. No one in their right mind would eat that much. But the principles were sound. Like at the end when he shows the McDonalds stuff not rotting... That just shows you the stuff that's in there.
a good book informational book to read is "Fit for Life" it talks about food combining, the effects of certain types of food like sugars and fats and so on
I think you are completely right, here in UK it's expensive to buy fresh food/vegetables.... but it's better than fast food
I'm in the same boat as you are and I do take-aways more often that I probably should but with a bit of research you will find easy and quick to prepare meals that are very healthy indeed. There's plenty of books for single person household cooking etc.

The film was not just about how he put on weight but how his health progressively got worst on his fast food diet. This was illustrated by the before and after examinations by his doctor, in fact his doctor was really concerned for his health and kept asking him to stop his experiment with a fast food diet.
Good things dont need to be advertised as much But there is plenty of commercials on vitamin water, at least in the streets, which is good, it helped it spread. Vitamin Water is a great product, if you are still drinking Coke instead of it then you really dont care about your health I only eat healthy sometimes its scary, i used to eat fast food before but after i decided to join the football team (soccer) ive started caring about my health much much more. The only fast food i have is subway or if not i buy a sandwhich at some deli or cafe... wheat bread with ham lettuce and tomatoes.
Just like what newbeing had been posted, "Super Size Me" film is also an eye opener especially for those people who almost depend their lives on eating to fastfood chains... Well, in my opinion, it's ok to eat on fastfood chains but not too often. what i mean is,as in everyday of ur meals, u just eat food that comes from fastfoods.U'll not get the right amount of nutrients if you do that.. Try to eat fruits and veggies, and drink plenty of water. It's ok if you eat meat too, just minimal amount...And exercise sometimes... And u'll feel the difference once you have that routine.. It feels good when u hav a healhty lifestyle...
I have actually switched from Major fast food like Mcdonalds to the Subway diet..Taste better and is better for you
