This poem was nominated the best poem for 2005, Written by an African kid.........amazing thought!!! When I born, I Black, When I grow up, I Black, When I go in Sun, I Black, When I scared, I Black, When I sick, I Black, And when I die, I still black. And you White fella, When you born, you Pink, When you grow up, you White, When you go in Sun, you Red, When you cold, you Blue, When you scared, you Yellow, When you sick, you Green, And when you die, you Gray. And you calling me Coloured?
The term "Coloured" was used to describe Black people, also known as African Americans, when this poem was written by a person that I believe was named Malcom X. The term "Coloured" is no longer used in the US.
I doubt you can say that term is "never used". Here in the UK it's commonly accepted that Black people are Black, not coloured. But I still hear plenty of people referring to them as "coloured".
Why are blacks called African Americans and whites simply whites or Caucasian??? Why aren’t they called European Americans???
I know what aussies are!!! I’m saying that Australians are also European descendants so therefore they would also be called European Americans.
That is an excellent question. I think the term "European Americans" should be adopted instead of the term "White," because it is more accurate. The term "Black" and "White" are very vague. It is interesting how the US seems to be the only nation in the world were a color is used to describe an ethnic group. If you go to Europe, Asia, or Africa, people refer to themselves as being Serbian, German, Polish, Russian, Georgian, Japanese, Cambodian, or Nigerian. These are specific names that actually define an ethnic group. The term "Black" and "White" should fall out of use in the United States. I'm not sure what "White" is. The definition has changed over the years. While Italian people were not originally considered "White" in the 1920s here in the United States, there are many Italians here that are called "White." Then you have people like Keanu Reeves, who even though he is mixed with Chinese, Hawaiian, and Irish, he is considered to be White. The same problem exists with the term "Black." I think European American and African American are much better terms.
May be just to give a description to an ethnic group withou insulting them. I like more people who don't look with a microscope in every word one says hoping to catch something inappropriate. If we go even deeper in history we all may end up being of African origin. Who cares over those little things? The sun will rise tomorrow again, and will bring light to all. To Africans, Europeans, Asians etc.
This has nothing to do with that, its just I would like to know why they call whites “whites†and blacks African Americans. I’ve lived in two countries that have a large “black†population and everyone calls them blacks, no one gets offended by it.
Yeah because in some places it's become socially acseptible... different locations, different teachings.
I think it’s because we don’t give a dam about skin color. If you white you white and if you black you black. Why event fancy names for something such simple things.
