In the previous IE vs Firefox poll here, Firefox won something like 80-20.

Now IE7 is officially out, lets vote again. But guys, at least try IE7 before you vote for Firefox!

Even better, why not use Opera and see all the "new cool features" that IE 7 now has that Opera users have been using for years.

I use both. IE is always on my Gmail a/c and i use firefox for browsing. What IE lacks are the extensions.

This poll makes no sense - IE7 just came out. Can someone really claim to be a power browser on both IE7 and Firefox to make this poll actually worth anything?

I'm not very comfortable using extensions provided by some random programmer.
You never know what that software (extension) actually does.
It might be helping you do something good, but in backend, it's possible that something unwanted is also happenning...Not necessarry, but is possible.
Allowing extensions is like leaving a door open for anything to come in.

I use firefox only to check how my sites look in it.

    IE7 by far.

FF (et al) are just also rans. Cheap generic knockoffs for people who look for "a cause without a reason".

Actually, there are some very important things that can be quickly compared between IE7, FF2 and other browsers. One of those things is compliance to W3C specifications. On this marke IE7 falls far short of what it should. As a matter of fact, I have found a page on my site that is screwed up in IE7 yet it validates to W3C HTML 4.01 Strict & CSS specifications and works correctly in IE5.5, IE6, Firefox, Netscape 6, Opera, etc.

From a developer's point of view properly supporting W3C HTML, XHTML and CSS is extremely critical. Unfortunatly IE7's support of CSS2 specifications is incomplete and IE7 DOES NOT support XHTML at all (it defaults back to HTML quirks mode for XHTML pages). Until IE fully supports W3C specifications we will be held back from the full richness and potential of what websites could be.

In regards to other interface, beyond some nice tweaks to their implementation of tabs, IE7 is a Johnny come lately and is simply implementing features that were first implemented in Opera and Firefox.

How secure IE7 is compared to Firefox2 is something we will have to wait and see on.

Firefox 2.0 is excellent, why even look at the IE when you have FF. FF 2.0 is even faster than FF 1.x...

the problem with IE no matter how you look at it, is that it is the most common browser aswell as the browser that more people who are less computer literate will choose. As such, most spyware and malware applications target IE both because it is common and because the users of IE are less likely to know how to remove it (and because IE makes it far to easy to target it). So that is why i dislike IE, i blocked it through my firewall entirely

    IE7
I would vote for FF but I truly don't care about my eCool status.

IE7 - Faster and more stable than FF, not to mention the memory leak issue.
People can carry on all they want saying FF is faster, it's not. I also don't have an issue with IE being a security risk, perhaps some of you need to look at your web browsing habits, not the browser.

"ZOMG I GOT SPYWARE CAUSE OF IE@!@@1"

No, you got spyware because you were trying to get a "free" ringtone or a "free" wallpaper...maybe some "free" pr0n? You get the idea...

P.S. Not saying I dont look @ porn, I just get mine off usenet where it's safe.

IE can be extended with other things it's just likely not as simple as Firefox's plugin system. With IE you need to know the Windows API somewhat and the Windows API is a C style API and so in the long run you need to know C++ to extended IE.

IE7 for me is a real nice upgrade compared to IE6. Gotta admit IE6 is really crappy. I was using Firefox for a while until I got Vista but I am sorry but Firefox's performance was really bad and lots of memory leaks while I was using it :( I have not tried 2.0 out yet but 1.5 and 1.0 is really bad for me.

I prefer FF over IE7 not because of the eCool factor or anything like that but because if I tried to switch with the amount of plugins I have installed in FF that are not available to IE7, I wouldn't be anywhere near as comfortable doing it. 6 months ago, I probably would have said IE7 but I'm too confortable with FF to move to IE7.
