I lost all the e mails from inbox when compacting

Today I was here on Digital point forum and at a moment Outlook Express asked me if I want to compact e mails. I press ok and after a few hours ALL my e mails were vanished from Inbox, thousands of e mails. I was looking everywhere for them but they're gone.
    What can I do?
    Thanks!

Not sure what version you got, but this should be somewhere near it:

    Open OE

In the menu bar go select 'tools'

    now select 'options'

    click the 'advanced tab'

at the bottom of this box select 'maintenance'

in the next box click 'store folder' this will give you the location of the file on your hard drive.

In future you are probably best off to make your own folder and transfer all emails yourself and arrange them accordingly.

    Hope this helps :)

Yes, it helps a lot. Seems that I found them but I can not check because they are in dbx format. What should I do to see them in a normal format? THANK YOU VERY much.

I have Windows Mail so it might be slightly different but try looking under FILE and see if there is an IMPORT option and see if you can get the messages back to your inbox using that. :)

It would have been more beneficial if you had provided more info on your Windows version,

If you have an earlier version this link may help you to see the files:

A think I am correct in saying you should not try and open these .dbx files with something like an html editor as you may corrupt them.
