HI, SEO's gona be closed soon. When all seo's read it will be a shock and many wouldn't agree to it. Becz Google is working on a new algo model tat will eliminate the LINK MODEL. The new model won't depend on links, by which itself spam would be eliminated. Google will come up with a great algo smarter to define which sites is more important and which sites are less important. The model is under process. This is a leaked info which i got from some of the database engineers.
I do agree that Google is more focusing with the content but SEO is going to sleep I am not. Let me tell one more thing is that yes sure Google is going to remove links from their priori criteria's and this is not a leaked information from any where Google's spam controller head Matt Cutt was announce this before on twitter.
Yes it is true that content is more important now onwards. But I do not have idea about the future of SEO.
SEO won't be gone. I think the proper phrase should be "SEO will be changed" ... SEO is a continuous process and its impossible for it to be gone.. It will just take into another way of doing SEO when this happens.

It will never be possible to base a websites value solely on its content. How to you rate websites with pictures, videos or lyrics? How to you know that a website with posts that are only 300 words long are better than 2000 word long posts? They can't rank websites on the amount of traffic they get or how popular they are on twitter/facebook since those are very unstable methods. I think links will always play a role, more or less. People link when they feel the content is worth sharing with others. However, Google might find a way to successfully give less value to automatic links. (if they havn't already)
Well content is very important thats why Google came up with its new algo named Google Panda. Its already filter many spam website. Google always trying to provide better search result for their users so it may be they focusing on some new algorithm or model but its not possible to shutdown SE.

SEO depends on SE.then only SEO will gone.But its true that SE changes algorithm and SEO needs to do work on new algorithm.
Okay, If Google will do such work then its Google lose not ours, everybody then will use Yahoo & Bing.
SEO is never gonna get close.Lets think that do people will ever stop searching on web.No obviously not, so SEO will be for ever.
Most of this is rubbish, the link model will always play a significant part in SE ranking. However it will play a smaller part in future, basing more on unique, relevant content. Social Media is going to be the next big thing for search engine rankings.
