well if you can have internal linkings to your other articles to that specific keywords like wikipedia does...definitely its going to help you a lot!
Yes, Theozard, internal linking also helps, even though less than the external links. You should follow the same rules in both cases, keywords in anchors, check the individual pages PR if you want to increase PR of some of your pages, etc...
it will definitely help you if you can link to other related articles on your site by linking the keyword/text with the artilce..internal linking helps
