Orkut is google's social networking site. Until now people could only join if invited by a friend. Google has now opened to the public anyone can join up. http://www.orkut.com/
You don't really want to be one of the 'Cool Kids', do you, turfsniffer? They're nothing but trouble...
I don't know if this is new or not - on the homepage, it says: When you sign in with your Google account, you get a page titled "orkut - migration". On it, you will see: It asks you to set up a username/password, and to link it to your Google account. Is this what you meant, Frank?
Doesn't look open: To join orkut.com, please ask someone you know who's already an orkut member to invite you. If you have a Google Account or Gmail Account, you will still need an orkut invitation to join. At this time, we're not able to send out individual invitations.
So how does this constitute "open to the public" if you still need an invite? I don't know (or think I know) anybody that uses Orkut, but I'd like to check it out for sure... any invites available?
You got a orkut account? I am still getting the same message that I need a firend to join in other words they are calling me Billy no mates
I found annoying Orkut Firstly you need a gmail account, that's fine, but then you need to fill in for orkut, when all the other Google services let you in just with your email account :|
http://cyberita.blogspot.com/2006/10/invitation-only-orkut-opens-up.html Huh. Perhaps they opened it for only a short time, or only certain countries? Frankcow is Canadian, the blog above is seems to be a resident of India...
What I saw before is just a migration/consolidation of Google accounts and Orkut accounts. Maybe they felt they needed more diversity?
