I have submitted two sites to DMOZ. One was accepted and one was rejected. The one that was accepted has a page rank of 3 without basically no other links. The other has a page rank of zero despite my best efforts. I have read the guidelines on the DMOZ website, but I am wondering if anyone has some inside tips on how to get in to DMOZ. Do you have sites that were submitted and rejected? How about accepted? What was the difference? Thanks
i tried to become an administrator there. they wouldn't go for it... its best to buy sites that are already dmoz listed because unless you have a huge budget, you're never going to achieve what's necessary to get accepted now a days.
DMOZ guidelines are very strict... You need to follow them thoroughly! How do you know your other site was rejected? May be it is still waiting for approval.
As mentioned above, a DMOZ listing is not as important as it used to be. Submit to DMOZ and forget it. If you really want to be listed, try applying to be an editor in your category. I would focus more on directories within your niche which might actually value and traffic to your site though.
Well this is good to know. I have submitted and have heard nothing back. It is like throwing a ball over the fence and then forgetting about it. I can see why the listing holds value. The exclusivity of it alone. But it sounds others have the same long waiting time. So I am not going to worry about it. They will contact me, right? Haha. Excuse me sir, we would like to add you to our directory. Kindly respond with your site info. Signed, the DMOZ team. : )
I like this quote on the DMOZ site. "it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months" kind of open ended. Translated, "we will include your site whenever we want which may be never". Don't get your hopes up and don't keep checking the status. Think of DMOZ inclusion as a bonus not a right.
I don't think you read very far into the sentence - or even its beginning . Here's the complete thing. It's not even relevant to this thread's topic .
We don't validate the code. Most browsers are pretty forgiving and we're happy if the site works. We don't much care about site age, but young forums, blogs and directories often suffer from a lack of content (which we do check).
Follow the terms and guidlines. If they accept your site great, if not nothing to get worked up about. Dmoz is not that great anymore anyway. Very few actually go there and search for anything. Most people just google and you rarely see any dmoz results in google anymore. It is a dying breed like a lot of others these days. If you get in great if not don't worry about it, tons of others out there. Dmoz listing is not going to smack your site up to #1 in google results by any means. If you are looking for a google backlink try other google related sites there are tons of them.
Can someone tell me if there has been any changes to DMOZ directory. A few years ago it was almost impossible to get into. Are they accepting new submissions and actually reviewing them?
