Hi, I just launched my europe travel site and I think it's too simple to do some buzz or viral marketing. I'm thinking about some useful tools that unique for travelers or some crazy idea and hire good PG to do it for me. The problem is...I've no crazy idea for now. Could you guys share me some ideas? No limit!! Any crazy and nuts ideas are welcome. cheers, Sxperm
Thank you for your suggestion. All contents are unique and original but may not new everyday, but new every 2 days or everyday sometimes. Regards, Sxperm
Try make it everyday will be better long term the spiders will move in if you update content everyday
You may want to start a contest for your website, where you invite your travelers to submit pictures from their last trip. Setup a little global map where people can click and drill down to the country or region they would like to view pictures of or submit pictures to. You may want to give away $$ or a gift for the lucky submitter. hope this helps
Thank you very much, that's a good one. I'll added to my idea sheet lists first and find out which the best one. coz if I cannot find wordpress plug-ins to do the work for me then I've to pay PG to do one for me and that should be worth to do it. Regards, Sxperm
Make a page that has common questions that you can ask when in different countries - if you include audio pronuciations it would be even cooler - Call it something like "When in Rome, speak as the Romans do..." These are some common questions visitors would ask - Where is the bathroom? Where is the hospital? Could you please help me? Can you recommend a good place to eat? Etc... Then do a translation for each item (include the audio pronunciation too, if you have some friends that could help) for each country that you talk about. - so you would essentially do a set in each language - German, French, Dutch, Spanish, English, Etc...probalby work them into each destination where they apply. I think this would be very very useful (espeically for foreigners) - plus somewhat original...something you send out a press release about. It doesn't have to be lengthy maybe just the top Ten. If you could download the audio to an IPod or MP3 player - that would rock! Just my 2 cents... PurplePeeps
I think contest works prefectly when you have an existing vistors base.A contest about something viral could be good.
Thank you, this is a great one idea but may difficult when I've to tell PG what I wanted. Cheers, Sxperm
Hi Travel is very tough niche. IMHO, the microniche you are in i.e. travel guides is much tougher than the other microniche like travel blog, travel booking.... Why ? 'cos like it or not, travel guides are authoritative content so people not surprisingly want to rely on the big guides like lonelyplanet, wikipedia when they travel. So in a way, unless your original content is very UNIQUE content which those researchers at lonelyplanet do not have..it is tough. Travel blogs on other hand is subjective and people don't mind going to new or small sites to reading your point of view/perspective. Also there are so many ready guides which travel booking engine affiliate owners (like WCT, globaltravel) offer their affiliates to easily add on their sites. Also when you promote CJ travel booking like Thomas Cook, people are more likely to click when you have the travel booking engine itself (i.e. the departure, arrival date, destination search boxes) on your site. CJ travel referral links (like the Thomas Cook example) are better to promote when you point or make reference to it in your blog or content itself. Since this is a guide, people would expect it to be quite exhaustive and complete. So as someone mentioned earlier, people may expect stuff like language, local tips etc. Most of these travel tools like travel booking engine, language, weather, geography, maps, local attractions/sightseeing, local tips etc. are provided if you become partner/affiliate of free travel affiliate programs like WCT (a Travelocity company) etc. which you can embed seamlessly into your site. You can embed tools provided by them and then add your own content to make it more unique. As you have the whole arsenal of travel tools, you also have more to offer. These major programs have promotional discount coupons $5,$10, newsletters (which you can brand with your name) etc. or package in a viral campaign. IMHO, Travel guides is too narrow to market and better to put other travel tools (especially travel booking engines) on your site so you have more offerings and therefore more opportunities for viral marketing. Just my 2 cents. No offence. Cheers!
Seem to be several folks in this forum from other countries (viewing their posting profiles) - pay them a couple bucks to say the sentances in the other languages they know. I would think several of the Brits that travel in this forum...know a few phrases that could get you started. I would double check them though, make sure that they are not telling the other person something rude like "go to hell" (or worse) or anything like that. Good luck with it...you could also do a funny one with more risque phrases or to sound "Borat-ish" in other languages (basically screwing up the pronunciation on purpose...a funny list of what NOT to say...then put it up on YouTube - it would be more likely to go viral.
