Hostable.com Too good to be true?

Is anyone familiar with Hostable.com? They are offering unlimited free web hosting?
They seem like a newish company. Maybe worth a punt? Would anyone host a "serious" website with them though?

There is no such thing as unlimited.

If you overgrown your website then they will ask you to leave of suspend you.

    not true at all

Thank you for signing up at Hostable and giving us a try. There has been some confusion about a few aspects of our service that I would like to clarify.

    1. We are *NOT* over-subscribing or over-selling this service. Hostable is owned by Brinkster, and we have been in this business for 12 years. Our intention is to provide you with high quality service and support so that you will want to renew and stay with us!

    2. Your account will renew for 3 months (not 3 years) at the rate of $6.99 per month – you can login to your account and verify this. We will be offering discounts and incentives that will save you additional money. We made this change to help you understand that we are not trying to force you to pay us $250 USD when your account renews in three years.

    3. We removed the miscellaneous fees and the $35 Early Termination Fee from sections 5.05 and 5.09 of the Terms of Service. You will not be charged these fees.

    4. Hostable is 100% Wind Powered and you can add a cool green badge to your website for free.

No mystery here... Like most web hosting companies they are building client base. We do the same at Netix.ca, you will find heavy discount coupons throughout the net... More important are company history, equipment, support, uptime and also question whether or not they run their own servers or are simply resellers.

If unsure about a Hosting company, maintain an independent domain name so you can switch server easily in case of emergency and also do regular site backup.

Very true, i don't want my sites just host on another reseller.
we may ensure that the company is an individual real hosting company that own their own servers.

In this case, hostable goal is to collect as much customers as possible. not to offer best service quality, and customer support.

Nice2sell, Remember, you get what you pay for, why most of people pay over $100 to get a hosting account from HostGator and other trusted companies for one year, when they can get completely FREE hosting account from hostable for three years? just think about it.

Avoid such companies, as their goal is JUST to collect customers, and then make some "good" money when they reach the renewal date.

Okay lets put it like this.

One.com - They are the biggest bunch of scammers i've ever seen. I cancelled my account with 2 months notice and 2 months after the money was due although i cancelled it , i rang them up to cancel aswell , did what they wanted, they sent me a letter in the post demands me to pay 350 swedish money which was about £20 or they would get a debt collector on to me.

Hostable , i am a customer of hostable and i have had no problems what such ever with them.they give oyu a sub domain which is no problem because if you want it to host your own domain you just add it on in the cpanel. The only thing that concerned me was that they do not do backups, fair enough as they are giving you 3 years hosting for 0.99 , but thats not a problem because you can do regular backups your self.

I will be giving hoastable.com a try later this week. It will only be for a small landing page/clickbank project, so if it works out then thats all well and good! If not - I won't have lost too much.

I will report back with how I find them.

did you pay by credit card?
do you think whether they will charge you renewal fee automatically 3 years later?

I have been hosting with Hostable.com for 3 months now, and i am really happy with there service, You people who say "I'll be cancelling at the end of this term" make me sick to my stomach, You guys are leeches and all you do is get all the free shit, but when it comes time to pay your cheap as **** .

Hostable is the best web hosting company out there, Technihost.com is after them 2nd :)

Well nothing is free no doubt about it, if you site start growing demands will pop up from hosting company. Moreover such new companies are pretty much good if you are running blog or site for time pass or as an hobby, but if you are in some sorta real time business then these are not recommended, as such sorta companies failed to provide proper uptime, CS and technical support.

In 2 weeks? On a free account? Not to sound discouraging but if that much bandwidth is being pushed through a dynamic site (not static), likely it wont be long before the account gets the boot for CPU/resource usage. I could be wrong though, I suppose :)

Maybe they worth trying. It less than $1 for 3 years so it costs almost nothing. And there is enough time for evaluation of there service... The only downside I see is that it's possible they discontinue their service one day all of a sudden if they decide their losses are too high.

And it seems that day is coming... :) I put a couple of minor sites there and they've already been down today for quite some time. I'm wondering if they'll be back at all.
The funnier part is that they even don't advertise their service as having 99% uptime (similarly to other hosting providers) but as 100%. :)
