Contest Replace site for header for a social network - $75

Hey,

I am looking for a new header design for a site I have.

North West Social . Com

I want something more professional looking and easy to navigate, I also need the ability to add more menu options, so if it is images you are using I need to be able to add more tabs for example.

The colours I would like to use are the same as the logo image (The NWS below the logo can be removed/changed but the logo should be like the current, or similar with the colours - The problem is I only have a gif and jpg of the logo here..)

The style Im looking for is something fresh and easy to use for people new to the internet.

If anyone has any questions, just let me know.

Heres my try
though, the banner can't be really creative since you have so plain body/container, which is even without side edges or strokes. And for the main navigation you have too many links to be honest, and they are either too long if you want icons beside them.
So that's why you can't expect really creative stuff.
I tried with this



I went with light blue since you have some blue bars there in your layout, so it suits with color scheme.
Home tab is where you are located at, and the forums tab is under the mouse hover.

FIRST:

SOMETHING I FORGOT TO MENTION FOR EVERYONE IS THE MENU IS DIFFERENT WHEN LOGGED IN.
This isn't for the main menu, but for the Signup / Login words - Once logged in, it gives other text rather than login and signup.

It is just text but I would like if you could show text menu items place for when logged in for the header also - It doesnt need any graphics at all, it would just make it clearer to imagine the design

Im really sorry for the late reply, I haven't been online for personal reasons - I will be checking this very often now.

I still want to run this competition and would like to choose a winner ASAP as I wanted to have the header changed a while back because I have a few competitions lined up on my site that have deadlines.

I like this but it is a bit too dark, I would like brighter colours in the menu itself, something with more of a funky web 2.0 style.

The text with the logo is perfect, I really like that - How about using something like this for the menu? The colours are great and exactly the style I am after.

I like the login and signup being clear and concise.

I wanted to get someone that would do the header first and see who does the best, then I will be using the same designer to work on the main section

Its easier to get someone to do the header and see the style rather than do a contest for a full page and have less entries

I like the colour of the menu you have used, its nice and bright, colourful.

I also like the concept you used for the black background and images for the login/reg in the corner so it stands out.

One thing I wouldn't want though is a gradient, I would rather have a flat colour as the gradient would have to go from the top of the header to the bottom of the page, it just cant happen because of how the templates work, they are a lot different from most scripts.

This is on purpose, I want a simplistic web 2.0 fresh design and also the templates would have to be edited a lot for adding this.

I just want the header then content section and footer, if you look through the site you will see most sections are using a different script so this would be a big job to change everything for every page.

As simplistic as possible is what I want

Also, the arrow and button down image for the forum is also a lot more coding, I think you are designing from an older style (Which is what I have always used, a lot more graphic - Think vbulletinstyles for my forums, but for this I want something very simplistic but professional.

The images dont have to be added, as long as the design works. I think images are good as long as not too intensive and detailed, again, just something web 2.0
Not my usual style, but I think it would work better for this.

The white images look a lot better!

I think right now the only thing I can suggest from this is the actual background colour on the menu, the white looks great with the dark background, but at the same time I want to use the menu background around the site, so I think 1 of the colours you used on the logo text would make the full site look better.

Without a doubt, I will be using the designer from the header to work on the site, so I'm hoping to get someone that can match the colours well throughout the site, I just think using this darker blue as a background for some sections on the main site would make it too dark in general and using other colours instead just wouldn't fit in with the design.

If they can stay and use 1 of the logo colours somehow that would be great, they dont have to be white, just brighter than more of a background than before.

Here is my submission: There are not any icons there at the moment because I didn't want to work on something fully if you didn't really like the rest of the design. If you like the look of this, I am willing to put some more time and effort into making it the right fit for you.

I didn't do much with the text on the links because I figured you would want to keep the site SEO friendly. Anyways, just know that I whipped this up quickly to see if you liked it, and am open to suggestions.

The only other thing I can suggest for your design really is putting "NWS" in the header - It's something I could add to letterheads etc whereas I couldn't add the full logo and text.

Thanks for the feedback, John. I have added a "NWS" logo. I could also put it in grayscale or make it smaller, if the colors/size are too much. Just let me know.

I don't think it suits the design like that to be honest, especially with the logo being shown twice in the header.
I was hoping for something more like the design I have, with the text pointing to the North West, just the 3 letters that I could use and people would recognise it.

Sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Would you like the "NWS" graphic to be used instead of the "North West Social" text? or in addition to it?

I would like to use it in addition, but just the text "NWS" below the logo, just like I have it now.

I would like it to be something that you can recognise just from the "NWS" alone, for example how I have the font using the arrows now.
If the font could point to the north for "N", west for "W" and the North West for the "S" would be perfect.
I can find the font I am using now if you dont have any way to do it.

If you could make the W go West I think that would look a lot better, just like the font I have right now.
I think the name is Subway but I can check if you want to work with what Im using now.

Im thinking the green looks best but Im not sure if the text is clear enough with white, I cant really tell because its made smaller.
Could you make the image fullscreen or even change the text colour? I just want to make sure its clear for visitors to read.

The only thing I would want changed is if the "N" could point North, even if it used another font but fits in with the subway.
