Do sites with Google Ads get listed in DMOZ?

Discussion in 'ODP / DMOZ' started by apeee, Apr 7, 2011.

I have an informative website which can be very useful to people who are involved in that niche.

But I have Google Ads & a Clickbank offer running in the website which I guess makes it a commercial website.

So, can this website get listed in DMOZ or do I have to remove all advertising in order to get listed?

    Any reply will be appreciated.

Why not just go to DMOZ and look at sites listed and you will see a lot of them have Google ads!

It's not easy (close to impossible) getting listed in a competitive category in dmoz. But just submit your website in the right category, you might get lucky ;)

It depends on how much editors are working in a category. If there is none, then there must be an 'overall editor' which can submit your site, however, this can take a time...they handle a looooooooot of categories.

If there is an editor in your category and he is still active, maybe it will be submitted within a week.

I know friends where it took some days, weeks, months, and even years...

DMOZ is becoming very stagnant these days.

News to me.....I still see thousands of sites added each month and they recently upgraded to DMOZ 2.0 :)

I dont see how you can make this claim?? Oh wait......Im guessing your site was not one of the 5K-10K new sites added this month :(

Maybe stagnant was just the wrong word...

The guidelines are still VERY old and out dated. Many of the editors here claim things that are no in accordance with them.

Many categories have not been touched in years, and many of the listed sites are out dated or worse, out right wrong.

The popularity of the ODP is on (and has been on) a downward spiral for years now.

It's SEO importance is at an all time low.

Its award page has not seen any action in over 10 years! (Last update: 1999)

No one has bothered to contribute to the banners page since 2003...

So yeah, they may be adding a lot of pages, but what about it? All that means is maybe stagnant is the wrong word ;) :p

    Ummm....
The guidelines are still VERY old and out dated. Many of the editors here claim things that are no in accordance with them.
The end user is the one that is supposed to submit sites, so that one!

Many categories have not been touched in years, and many of the listed sites are out dated or worse, out right wrong.
The end user supposedly uses the directory right? So certainly this one!

The popularity of the ODP is on (and has been on) a downward spiral for years now.
Its losing popularity with the end user as well is it not?

It's SEO importance is at an all time low.
In the end it's loosing it SEO appeal because the end users no longer care about directories.

Its award page has not seen any action in over 10 years! (Last update: 1999)
Ummm... some of the ones listed are from average joes, which would certainly fit the end user.

No one has bothered to contribute to the banners page since 2003...
Those are all submitted by end users.

So yeah, what was your point again?
