Site description in directory submissions

Is it true that you should compose a different description every time you submit your site?
Why should google lower a link's worth just for being surrounded with the same text?

Yes better submit different descriptions, instead of one description for all directories.
like target descriptions for different keywords, so that it makes unique content.

But it still makes sense to use the same keywords, the same anchor text if you want to improve rank on certain phrase, right?
So it's different description for the same keywords.

It's better to use different descriptions as well as anchors. The last one - is necessarily since Google pays huge attention to the title of a link. I recommend to use at least 5 different anchors for submission to many directories. And for paid directories with high PR it's better to use everything absolutely unique. It has a big influence on the result - tested more than once.

If anything you said in your post hold any water, then people would submit your
crappy directories list to every cesspool they can find to kill your site just to
teach you a lesson so you never again make up some cakamany stories.

There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't use the same Anchor Text..Nothing is wrong. Because if it would really hurt your rankings then your competition would do it and screw you. I always use same anchor text and slightly different site description (not because of bots, but because I prefer).

I also don't recommend you to go out and spam every directory. Getting the link isn't as important as getting it from a good directory. Submitting to bad ones will only hurt you.

I don't think that big amount of links from spamish sites or weak sites can hurt your rankings.
In the worst case they will be disregarded and won't have any effect.

They can, they will, Google confirmed it. I'm talking about directories that have tons of bad articles and link to websites that link farms, illegal stuff and spammy.

Can you give an example of such a directory?
I'm working on one myself and want to make it a quality directory, so I need to know what to avoid.

Making your own directory is an excellent way to earn some more money (if that's what you want to get too)!

To stand out and actually make people submit their URL's to you, you should not allow every site to be accepted. Otherwise, you will just be treated as a place where people get backlinks from, no matter what their site is about. A few weeks later, your directory will be useless to search engine bots. I hope you've already checked some of the famous, such as JoeAnt, Yahoo Directory, BOTW - they all charge for links (you can have it free at first, then set a price when your Page Rank and stats get better) but they don't guarantee you will get in.

Simply, do not let in every bad site. Do some research on each, about their Page Rank, backlinks (to see if they're very very unrelated) and domain age. Last but not least, check their design, content.

Yeah I already made a page with details which submissions are forbidden. I fully intend to check every submission manually. You mentioned checking domain age??
You don't mean I should reject sites just because their new, are you?

Of course not! Most of your submissions will probably be new ;)

But sometimes, it's easier to know which site is specifically designed to be spam, based on their age.

    I see... Thanks a lot!
One last question - When I finally finish this project, can I publish the link here to get a feedback from you guys, so I can fix problems, get comments about the design and such?
And if yes, should I put it in this section or the reviews section?

    No problem.

Yes, if you feel it's ready! Put it in your signature too, because you will need to promote it a lot! However, once you make it, it's wonderful.

Putting it in reviews gets you visitors and comments. So of course you should ;) Good luck.

Directories are places where users go to find websites, just like they do with search engines. While search engines normally accept almost any site or page that is submitted to them without looking at its quality, directories usually only accept sites that offer quality information.

I still got a few weeks before it will be done, I think. But when it will be finished I'll put it there. Thanks man!

By using different description, titles and keywords there are many benefits we get. When we using different titles, description and keywords when we submitting many directory like high pr so there chances to get high for our keywords.
