    G'day.

I'm really into films that make you think. I love all films but my favourite basic genre I believe is to do with time travel/parallel univereses or future scenarios.

Right now I'd say my favourite film of the last decade would have to be
    Children of Men.
I particularly love Jasper's character and believe Michael Caine should have received and Oscar for his performance. The film had me in right from the get go.

As for other films there are three that spring to mind straight away.
Time Crimes - foreign film (lol - guess that depends what country you're responding from ;p)
    12 Monkeys
    The One

So if anyone has anything else, particulary related to the time travel aspect, or something similar to the pure artisitc Children of Men, I'm particulary interesed in seeing other characters in any film that are similar to Jasper's character/Micahel Caine.

I'll browse through my films now and see if there is anything else I can add.
Again only time travel or sci-fi bending film suggestions please.
I should add, films that are brain bending and usually need to be viewed twice or more to understand are also okay in this list. For example:
    A Scanner Darkly.

Please refrain from suggesting 2001 - A Space Nugget and similar titles like the Matrix that are already well known.

    I eagerly await your replies!:D

I think The one is the best movie.I mean a person having such much power that he can do any thing. He having the potential to stop time or he can change the future.Jet lee has done the tremendous job.

Amitoops, yeah I always am suprised everytime I watch it. I always leave it just long enough to go back expecting kung fu and a tad of time travel, then BAM! Both at AMAZING levels of skill.
Jet Li has been in some really good films, another one that I really love by him, that has nothing to do with this thread, is Fearless. It's a great story. But there's also Unleashed which is well worth a watch. Depends what you're into I guess....

You got any other recommendations for us?

Try Momento about a guy who forgets everything whenever he sleeps (cant remember the name of the condition) but needs to solve a mystery so he tattoos himself before sleeping, but the whole thing is done in flashback, so quite often you know as little as he does. Amazing, but flips your head!

Seen it bro. Great film, guy pearce from memory, might have to give it another watch soon.

Butterfly Effect is one I always love. It's one of those films that makes you dive right into the characters, setting, plot, etc. I highly recommend this one as well.
As for Matrix and Inception, well there's another one that has slipped my mind that fits perfectly with those two, oh yeah it's currently at the cinemas, The Adjustment Bureau. But there's also an older one that fits into this category I just can't think of at the moment. Will try and find and get back to you.

Is this really a mind bending film? mmmmmm......

Haven't seen A Beautiful Mind. For me as an Aussie, anything with Russel Crowe in it I tend to avoid. His appearance on screen is always rough and not how Aussie's should be portrayed. Perhaps after hearing this from several people and now you I will give it a go, after all if he makes this appearance brutal as well, then my point stands true.

Yeah, this isn't the best english, my bad. I should probably have read it over before posting it. Is that your point, or were agreeing that The One is awesome?

    Any other recommendations yet?

hahahaha, yeah I've been meaning to get around to watching Lynch's stuff. He is a very spiritual guy, as I believe am I and most other good directors, not the standard run of the mill garbage, but directors that have something to say, another few are Darren Aronofsky - The Fountain, The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream, Pi to come but will be amazing - Machine Man, and Alfonso Cuarón - 12 Monkeys.

I find it funny that as a future director myself, I already see myself not putting crap movie out year after year, more like these and a few other guys, get behind projects I believe in and make them something out of this world! It's weird how the best creative minds always have similar traits and common habbits they share.

But yeah another two that should probably be on this list are:
    Pi
    The Fountain
I'm yet to watch Requiem for a Dream, though I hear good things....

I'll be sure to check Mullhulland Drive out! Got a couple to watch now :D
    Still, more suggestions?

I just watched The Nines recently. It's an indie film starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa McCarthey. It's set up in 3 parts with 3 different story lines which all come together at the end. Through most of the movie, I was completely confused, but by the time it was over I was amazed at how brilliant the concept was. It really makes you think.

Thanks for your reply Isandler. For me I straight away thought of the movie 11:14 when i I read the stories all come together at the end.
As for indie films, well some are brilliant, and some are well....... ;p
But I don't really like Ryan Renolds anymore. In Waiting I thought he was awesome, some other roles he's good, but he's just a sell out, never really puts any time into his roles and therefore the performance isn't always up to scratch. Was this made before his bigger roles? Is it also a Sci-Fi type one, or more like 11:14, where the goal is to confuse the hell outta everyone til the very end of the film?

LOL, seriously though, does it make your mind 'bend'. And does it have anything to do with time or trying to get your mind to think outside the normal.
And please don't reply with, "Yeah, come to think of it Scarface was better than The Godfather!"
    LOL hahaha, ;p

Though seriously, is there nothing else you've seen that makes you think a little differently, needs your mind to adjust to new ways of doing things, or is regular family sort of stuff enough to do it for you? Not judging man, just can't see how The Godfather can make you think differently.
I don't know if you've seen it, but I imagine you'd enjoy a film, We Own The Night. See to me that get syou thinking, but it's not what I'd call a mind bender. Either way give it a watch and see if there's anything else you could suggest for me!
