Complete nonsense. This person was a crook and a cheat and as such needed to be exposed. Just as any editors who cheat the systems need to be routed. PP demonstrated in a clear way that if you are prepared to cheat the system not only do you stand a high likelihood of getting every site you are associated with permanently banned but also you will be exposed publicly as a cheat. Good work, keep it up. No matter how many might be pissed of because the ODP will not list their sites on their terms when it suits them, the ends do not justify the means. If you do not understand this then perhaps this gives a clear insight into as to why your continued participation in the ODP was no longer welcome.
There is a law which states bribing DMOZ editor is criminal act? I recommend punishment of death for anyone breaking holy DMOZ laws! So now anyone who wants his competitor banned in DMOZ will create profile in DP, send few PM offering a bribe (to you) and watch as sites disappear from DMOZ. This sound like drug policy, instead of solving a problem lets throw everyone into jail, we don't even need to have a trail. She must be a heretic; let us burn here on a stake!
I really find you Neb as an unsuitable example for the ODP. First, your declarations about yourself are just awfully lying to the extreme which you had some of us thought, including me, that you are in the TOP 100 BILLBOARDS. I hope the MODS of DP investigate your account as you post similar as the person I know and have a history of PSYCHOTIC IMPULSES similar to a META turned EDITALL. There is no queue. There is no waiting time. If you do not understand this then perhaps this gives a clear insight into as to why your continued participation in the ODP is questionable since your attitude is somewhat questionable by having PYSCHOTIC IMPULSES. This does not reflect a good ODP behaviour since that is one of the reasons SOME were REMOVED according to ACCUSATIONS OF ABUSE. But in your case your kissing the ODP well so NO WORRY. As for the SOME its the other way around so the account was LOCKED. Neb is demonstrating a lot of the CARTEL's qualities though he is North American. I am not sure what the big deal is here. The majority of people on this forum spend the bulk of their time complaining about corruption in DMOZ. When someone is given a rough time for trying to corrupt DMOZ the rougher-upper is savaged. Corruption takes two to tango and there would be fewer corrupt editors if there were no corrupt webmasters willing to pay to cheat the system. Both sides are as bad as one another and both sides deserve everything they get when they are uncovered. PP did the guy a favour anyway - stopped him getting scammed by crooks posing as editors. And saved him $250 for a listing that is basically worthless in terms of PR boost these days.
Exactly! We have all complained of corruption with DMOZ editors, and they are certainly out there...but, it is crazy that many of those that would complain of corrupt editors would themselves be willing to pay for a listing. How many people posted in this very thread that they would pay for a listing just like this guy was trying to do? They are part of the problem as well.
Actually in this case, it takes 3 to tango. DMOZ as organization that encourages corruption by refusing to implement procedures that stops corruption, corrupt editors that use the possibility that is given to them by DMOZ and people who are ready to pay bribes to get listed. If we are going to assign blames then in my opinion the majority of blame should go to DMOZ as organization since without it, the other two could not exist.
Yep, if DMOZ did not exist there would be no corruption associated with it. Of course, the minimal PR value of a listing these days should also be having an effect but it seems the message isn't getting through to webmasters still willing to pay for something relatively worthless.
PP , your act shows that your are trying to make a fool out of yourself. Everyone in here wishes to get into the ODP and yet you can be hipocrite in a way potraying yourself that such submitter is a corrupt. You know there can be no rewards for that. A DMOZ Editor won't pm you giving you a sense of gratitude over your work for tracing a corrupt submitter. Else this has become an obvious practice and DMOZ org knows very well that their editors are totally volunteers that needed some reward for some reason and the organization can compensate all the editors.
You are twisting my words, DMOZ can exist, it just doesn't need to encourage corruption and fight any action and procedure that tries to stop it.
Yes, I clearly did this for the big reward. My reward was reward was screwing this idiot over that started a thread here wanting to bribe an editor. And trust me, it felt great!
I hate to break it to you, but there is life beyond DMOZ and what DMOZ thinks is acceptable. Lieing to someone to try and get them to accept your bribe offer and then "exposing" them on a public forum is tacky. *Yawn* Don't DMOZ editors ever get tired of being condescending? I'm gald that I apparently caused such a frenzy at DMOZ that many moons later, you know who I am. Please do tell me why I am no longer a DMOZ editor, nebuchadrezzar. You seem to want to speculate about it, so go do some research and get your facts straight
I learned from a master It seems to me that in many ways the preservation of the amateur volunteer model is overshadowing the actual purpose of the directory. The purpose of the directory is to list unique sites. How those sites get there is of secondary importance and the fact that SEOs within the editor community can list client's sites provided the sites are listable and declared is a result of the actual purpose of the project being upheld. Increasingly I am coming to the conclusion that only accredited professional editors can save the project and, ironically, preserve the volunteer community. But in the meantime, whilst accepting cash for listings is prohibited, the option to pay only exists for those comfortable about cheating the system and such people are still in a small minority. And it is totally unfair to those who are not comfortable about cheating so it has to be punished.
Prostitution, drug trafficking, corruption... each problem has two ends, customer and supplier and centuries of repression didn't solve anything and only criminals have gotten richer, if the system is flawed attempts to combat corruption (and other things) by cracking hard on it will only give temporary results and next time it will be harder to discover it so entirely different approach is needed.
He knows, matter of fact he participated in that thread at RZ. All you need to do is check seriously WHO he is. Here we are again. How could they punish corrupt editors when they don't want to. It's OK punishing low category editors as they are not as valuable as Senior Editors. They have access to logs but still ignores the facts. Why ? Because they operate quietly and don't say BAD BANANAS about DMOZ. As I have stated I just like piecing puzzles and led to some discoveries with no access to logs. To fight corruption is to fight it from ABOVE.
That is exactly the problem. The most corrupt editors are the people who are actually running DMOZ in Admin and Meta ranks. The total immunity of corrupt senior editors even when other editors complain, has made me believe that there is a high possibility that even some AOL staffs are involved in this corruption ring.
Total prohibition of anything is usually ineffective and takes huge resources to even contain. Plus it attracts organised crime. Providing regulated and quality controlled outlets usually reduces those negatives substantially.
We'll call Elliot Ness and learn and when everything is permitted by Society we'll just splash in join everyone. It is much better than sitting their butts and look beautiful day by day. What's the sponsor doing anyway isn't it a huge resource ? They are already the ORGANIZED CRIME for crying out loud.
How much will you give for an inclusion into dmoz or if you are an dmoz editor how much will you charge for an inclusion., Ofcourse you wont do anything in the open like this innocent guy (newbie) did
LOL! I like your style of harassing our DMOZ editors that frequent this board, but please, Sarathy. I would believe most (notice I said not all) editors would never even consider doing such a thing as selling listings, if for no other reason than it is the wrong thing to do. Many people see the Internet as a game called "Win By Any Means"... but not everyone. There are alot of people that would play by the rules even when there competitors do not.
