Jake is a 12 year old genius with an IQ of 170. He's working on his own 'expanded version of Einstein's theory of relativity'. You can read some of his comments about the Big Bang Theory here and here. According to the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, he's gone about as far as he can there as a student. They're offering to seek funding, and provide him a paid position as a researcher. The family has been sought out as well by a major ivy league school, offering Jake free tuition to attend their university beginning in the Fall of 2012. Not sure what direction Jake and his family will go, but his talent and potential is incredible.
That's amazing. Imagine having an IQ greater than Einstein. He'd better start growing his hair and mustache now.
Meanwhile in Tulsa... Tommy, a 15 year old with an average IQ, has scant luck securing funding for his plans to debunk Dancing with the Stars.
I think IQ is a factor in intelligence but to solve Big bang i don't think IQ plays that much role. Its difficult that this boy will become like Einstein in future. He is the only one of his kind.
Thanks for all your comments. I found something else that I wanted to add to this thread. Jake had a diagnosis of Autism, up until he was 10 years of age. His family has a charity called Jacobs Place. Just thought that was interesting as well.
Great story Rebecca. Interesting that they have a charity for the kid. Perhaps they wanted financial aid for school? I'd figure the school's would be throwing money at that family to have him attend. I can't help but wonder if the family has turned into a marketing and promotion agency given some of the news headlines, including the "Debunk the Big Bang Theory" headline. A friend of mine mentioned this kid appeared on Glenn Beck two nights ago, busting out some fairly low end math in demonstration of the skills he plans to debunk the Big Bang with. I had to dig it up and watch it even though I don't normally have the constitution to sit through an entire episode of Beck. Apparently the links between Autism and genius are fairly well established. Makes me wonder what type of IQ is stashed away on the bulk of these kids who are not socially functional. Perhaps the charity is to raise money for the lifetime of therapy that will be required from spending his entire childhood with college students and liberal professors.
Pretty awesome. I knew a guy with autism once and he was not nearly as smart as this kid. And for those who asked, no autism does not lower your IQ, it just makes you more "interested" in certain areas. People with autism often have problems being social as well. Man, I wish I was this smart.. I don't like math that much. xD
It looks like Jacobs Place was started in 2000, when Jake was about one. They work with about 200 kids with autism. It's a recreation center where they have "movie nights, parent groups, social gatherings, homework buddies, and numerous other fun events for the kids." As far as financial aid for school, they are not eligible at IUPUI. His father had said that was because of being in the early entrant program. The major ivy league school did offer a "very nice scholarship" but the family would have a difficult time moving out of state. His father said the cost of living would be much higher, and he would have to find a new job. So, they are still considering what to do. You may be right, but consider it wasn't like this before the article was written in the IndyStar. It sounds like the story went viral. Here's a different article which suggests they may want to wind down from all this publicity. Thanks for posting it, I enjoyed watching that video. Interesting point. LOL - That's so funny.
I hope I can be debt free before something debunked by kids. Yes I am always smarter than kids for sure
Nice , he truly is smart . Usually high IQ manifests in just one hemisphere . He couldn't draw a cat but he can play Beethoven . I wonder if his brain put the notes in a algorithmic string or if there is a correlation between algorithms and neural net pleasure patterns . I do lean towards the 1st choice .
I think he mainly excels in math and science. With the music ability, I've read that classical music is his favorite. After listening to a piece of music, he can play it on the piano (fairly well). They say he has a photographic memory, so say, if he has read a book, he can later refer to it as a picture in his mind. It may be kind of the same with the music, where he can recall it easier than most would.
Oh man i forgot to take into consideration his autism . Eidetic memory is often encountered in autistic people if we couple that with high IQ we have the answer . Thanks Rebecca .
