Hi Recently the database for my site crashed and I had to fix that. The site was down for about 2-3 days when all pages were unavailable. Now my site's traffic has plunged by more than 50%. In the Google Webmaster tools, I see that 50% of the pages in my site have disappeared from Google's index: Sitemap Status Type Downloaded URLs submitted URLs in web index /sitemap.xml OK Sitemap Apr 1, 2011 1,671 807 I am not sure why this happened. Can you please let me know how I can get my lost pages indexed back in Google? Thanks in advance.
Why not try pinging those pages that have disappeared from the index? That may be a simple way to get Google to re- index them once again
natorob I do not know what is meant by pinging those pages. Can you please tell me how to do that? Thanks.
Go to a ping site like www.Pingomatic.com Enter in the URL of the pages that have disappeared. Select all of the ping services by hitting the checkbox. Ping them. It alerts Google to the fact that you have pages ready to go… Just don’t do all of them in one day; may 4 or 5 per day…
Thanks. Now I remember this ping concept. I just checked and found that my wordpress automatically updates the notifying services such as http://rpc.pingomatic.com/. TO be sure I am gonna ping the missing pages using the site you posted above.
Yea, just continue working with your site, post new materials, build new links and wait a little. If the reason was really unavailability of pages (503, 404 or..?) they will come back in a while after they began working.
The best way is that wait and stop working in these pages.i hope your site will come back in few days...
Keep doing your work and wait for the best. May be due to downtime of your website for 2 days your pages have de-indexed. Now your website is online so Google will index it when crawl on next time.
Assuming you have an account at google's webmaster tools, simply remove the sitemap and resubmit it. Your content should be listed in no time. I got added about 100 new pages to index using this method.
i've had that happen to one of my forum's that had a mass of pages indexed. i just used webmaster tools to submit a sitemap, and they got re-indexed.
All Thanks for your reply. I am continuing to update my site hoping it will come back. nixproxy Thats a good idea too. Let me try deleting that sitemap in Webmaster tools and resubmit it.I will report back. Thanks.
