hello there! just want to ask freelancers if you pay tax to your government. please state your country. Thanks!
Anyone earning over a certain amount, or using a registered company to do business MUST pay tax. At least, that's the rules here in the United Kingdom.
In U.S. you pay a sales and service tax on everything except food. But ofc, our taxes system is inadequate to support something as freelancing, so it's fairly easy to just not pay the tax as a freelancer.
Sweden here, about 80% of all takings go to the government as taxes and VAT-tax So doing things for $5 and $10 as I do for people here in these forums, that's really not about making money, after taxes there is nothing left
Yes.. i need to pay.. Banks automatically pay tax on my behalf if my account gets more money then the prescribed limit..
Sweden seems to be taking as much as they can from their citizens hope they have better facilities too.
India - Yes. I have been paying TAX from the beginning. But now India has enabled tracking of all online transactions and so likely all the people who are having their online income will be paying tax as per the govt. criteria.
Im a college student in the US with another part time job, and I claim taxes on my part time job, and investment returns from swing trading. But most freelancing, I let it slide under the table unless its a large sum of money, then its safer to just claim it. You don't want auditors snooping around in your bank statement and seeing a check you cleared was a tax write-off from a company you just did web design for.
I would feel very dirty giving my government a percentage of my personal income. I don't mind paying sales taxes though.
The United States government is notorious for mismanaging its taxpayers's money. They've concentrated their budget on the military industrial complex while simultaneously neglecting important aspects of society like education and the establishment of domestic industries (which, in turn, would create jobs and dramatically help the economy). Instead we deploy troops to distant countries and fight wars we have no business being in. Also note that the federal reserve, federal income tax, and the very existence of the IRS are all unconstitutional. The twilight of the American empire draws near, and because of this, I'm currently in the early stages of mustering some sort of exit strategy. No one wants to live in a police state with an ailing economy and a country full of overweight, uneducated sports fans who think America is Disney world.
I don't.. And I don't think it's fair to pay taxes when it's your personal income and they never helped me on looking for clients.. Anyway, why don't they focus on business owners and those who really earned a lot, buy a lot and corrupt a lot? And why would I give to people who will just corrupt my money.. It's only my own point of view..
In the UK there's a minimum amount which is being raised I believe to something like £6-7k / year? Good on you, well done for that
