First of All. GoDaddy is a major Domain selling Company. Web Hosting is its Secondary Feature. Secondly, If you buy Domain from GoDaddy it will not automaticall point anywhere. You need to set its Nameservers so that it can point to a particular host(Like Hostgator, hostmonster, blogger, JustHost, etc). It won't make any difference if you buy domain and hosting from same site. They can always be transffered to different Hosts.
I agree it's fine to buy your domain name through godaddy but I recommend you host you website elsewhere. All you have to do is put the nameservers from whatever web hosting company you pick into your domain name manager over at godaddy.
