I wouldn't bother. It'll be a waste of your time. Its hard to find people who are not smart enough online to pay for hosting who have a drive to have a site online.

See, the main thing is that I have another site which I am trying to promote (link in my signature), I am just thinking if it will be a good idea to offer free web hosting to people that want to host their site as a reward for Signing up to my HateForFree.com site and inviting 5 of their friends to join as well. Once they meet that condition, I could send them a link to sign up for free hosting. Just brainstorming to see if its a good idea.

It sounds like a pretty cool idea, but does it fit into your marketing plan?

It seems like you'd be a real hassle if you got any volume of people signing up for it. There's other ways to get people to tell their friends either by giving away a free bribe or some other kind of information that they would be interested in.

If you want people to sign up to your site why don't you just buy them on microworkers?

Microworkers? Not sure what that means lol

The other big problem is that I don't have a big marketing budget to spend so I am thinking of creative ways. I don't trust buying traffic because most of it is spam generated and all it does is ruin the bounce rate of the site.

If you are serious about your business I would not look at free hosting.... I have found that free hosting is slow and they can wipe out your website for no reason. So if you are serious look into paid hosting.. get a good autoresponder too...

So... If not free... What is your comfort zone? What are you looking for in a host and what do you think is the ideal monthly price?

I have about 15 free hosted sites so yes people do use free hosting. Whether they'll use your service or not would more depend on how you plan on getting the message out that you're a free hosting company, what you have to offer, how your service is better than the others, etc, etc.

Maybe this is promotional method. But, never signup from professional websites. The business man may not believe free hosting for long time running.(bcoz whenever free hosting make some network prob)

I think that there would be interested people for free hosting. Gamers could be your target group for example. They usually host their guild pages and forums that way.

I think you can get avid supporters from people who uses blogger or free weebly or wordpress sites. Just tell them that they can register a free domain like co.cc or co.nr as well. It is a nice marketing plan you got there.

As I mentioned before, my site (www.HateForFree.com) which I want to promote is only 2 weeks old, there are ZERO ads on my site and I dont' plan to have any ads on my site for a long time. Say after a year, I want to have a couple of ads on the site, they will not be those retarded survey ads, they will probably be simple and well placed Google Adsense ads. Thats it!

I am thinking of ways to promote it. It's like a social network for Haters. I was thinking about offering the first 100 or 200 new members free hosting provided they create a new account and invite 5 of their friends. Thats it. Nothing more to it. Signing up and inviting 5 of their friends takes 2 mins, There is no gimmics, just a site to have fun and let out your frustration and hate on whatever you hate on.

I don't expect any ROI for a long while.

Am I crazy to do this? I am only brainstorming and looking for your expert opinions before I start this. The hosting service will be great without a doubt with all sites hosted at HostGator.

People do not like hosts that are not reliable. Everyone has good intentions, but when it does not work out, then the host is out of
business. This is why free hosting does not have a good rep. I do not trust free hosts as far as I can throw them. They really do not
have incentives to keep going, in fact, I can count the number of free hosts that have been up for years just on one hand, and that
should tell you alot right there, but you are going to do what you want regardless what others say, and it takes a lot to retain clients
as everyone demands and wants quality, and the moment you are down for 15 min, your clients will be jumping ship.

and you can not throw up a free host and think people are going to flock and signup...just like any business it can take years....
you have to be around for a long time, you have to be known, people have to see you as being reliable, people have to trust you, etc...
