Alright, let's save Google crawls this thread's page. This thread dies and no one responds to it anymore, so It goes to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc page. I go back and edit this post. How long will it take for Google to re-crawl this thread to view the updated contents of the post?

Depends on a lot of factors but I would assume a big forum like this one has a very good crawl rate

Search for "improving your crawl rate"

Could you please explain the word 'maximum'? I used to have a blog which has not been crawled for more than 6 months. It all depends on the links pointing to your site. You can social bookmark your site and your website will be crawled very fast.

You XML sitemap helps with this, update it when you post, can get a new site indexed in 5-12 hours, new pages around 5 hours

The google algorithm indexes every website with a date or a simular value. If you copied some content from other websites google will find out with a check of the indexing date. Some infractions of this kind and google will kick your website out of there index - mostly for ever!
