Do Google Adwords really work?

Hi I'm currently in the process of optimizing our website for Google search engines. I'm completely new to all of this but I've received advice from different people to put some cash aside and start an Adwords campaign. Would that budget be better focused on long term SEO optimization or is Adwords a sure-fire way to get traffic to our website quickly?

I would caution against commencing and adwords campaign in the first instance. If you are just starting to optimise your site I would advocate using whatever budget you have put aside for PPC to promote organic SEO, unless that is your industry sector is fiercley competitive then adwords may be your best bet. I recommend you try free organic way on how to increase traffic to your website. If you have the time, learn SEO.

Of course they work - they are just expensive especially if you are in a competitive niche.

 

Best thing to do is split your budget for both Adwords and some SEO work if thats possible. Simply because eventually when you get up the rankings you will be able to lay off on your Adwords and be less reliant on Google and more on yourself, also if you rank well in say google using SEO practices then the chances are you will also rank well for the other search engines too, not just google like with Adwords.

I personally use this methodology

week 1-4 80%/20% adwords to organic SEO
week 4-8 50%/50% adwords/organic SEO methods
week 8-12 20%/80% adwords/organic seo
after week 12 cease all PPC campaigns.

Don't ever anticipate seo will work quickly, so you have to put something asside for PPC if your client demands results from the off.

 

I had a $100 coupon so i used it and it worked great

I got a ton of clicks to my site with a better than average bounce rate

however the $100 went extremely quickly now im paying

 

You need to be really good at PPC to see a benefit as the cost may outrun the benefit otherwise.
