I have known a lot of method that bring traffic to our website.I tried almost of them but not get much traffic Here is all the method I know and please tell me which is the best method in your opinion 1 . SEO : This is the most popular and long-term method but really work for getting organic traffic from search engines 2 . Paid traffic : like Google Adwords, Facebook Advertising, Yahoo Search... This method will get good traffic quick and targeted but we have to pay for that 3 . Forum marketing : To success with this method you need to make a good reputation in the forum which you join in by posting good information 4 . Social networks : Twitter and Facebook are now very huge and active.If you have a lot of FB friends or Twitter followers you could do anything you want 5 . Subscribe List Building : This method always work well but need a long time to build such a good list 6 . Article Marketing : This method now seem to be down and not very effective but I think squidoo and hubpage are still good 7 . Classified Ads : This method is also free but I did not see any result from this.Btw the best classified ad site is Craiglist but they require phone verification 8 . Video Marketing : You need to make a video your own and watermark it by your website URL then upload to Youtube 9 . I think Forum Marketing, Social Networks, Article Marketing, video marketing and blog commenting are all tools for SEO so doing these things will get you some short term traffic boost from people clicking on your links and things like that but also longer term results from improved SERPs I don't know much about classified ads or subscribe lists. paid traffic is good but expensive.

I've found that SEO is the best investment when marketing your website. PPC is extremely risky and expensive, making the most sense when you need quick eyes on your website or want to offer deals on your ecommerce site. It's best to network with others in your field and set up a long term, affiliate plan.
Its good to get traffic but I would make sure that the traffic is "targeted traffic" people that want to buy what your offering..
What about the principle of just having a good product? Exposure is absolutely necessary, and these are good ideas to achieve exposure, but if you don't have a good product, no one will pay you any attention.
I prefer seo for my targeted traffic results. Tried ppc but got really expensive quick, it's great as long as you know what you're doing and have money to burn for trial and error. I also like email marketing, just stay away from low cost un-targeted email campaigns unless you like to waste money, lol. =)

Guest blogging is also useful. Find out blogs relevant to your subject and post unique blogs with one link to your site.
All these methods are important but you have to have them focused in the right areas. For example, article marketing is very powerful but which sites should you market to for the best return?
I would recommend a SEO but everything for a beginner. I think it's best to see how every one of them works for you.
I will be adding 10. Directory Submissions (find a list of free high pr directory and start submitting your site to the recommended category).
I think PPC, paid traffic is the quickest way, but you have to know what you're doing so you don't lose your shirt.
