Keyword is a word, line or combination of words to be used to search in search engine like Google, yahoo and bing. Whereas impression means to be shown particular item in the site or blog. For example if you have any ad in your site's particular page and visitor has opened that page 5 times then the impression for that page and ad will be 5.

I still don't get it 100%. I understand what keywords are. The impression thing is still kind of fuzzy. I have a Pet Care website & blog. In webmaster tools my impressions say things like: pitbull germany up %567 <10, kirkland dog bed up arrow w/ no percent, etc. I don't have any ads on there. I have pages about my services, me, my customers, faq, blog, etc. So how did these words become impressions and how are they relevant to me? If someone googles those words that would make them keywords right?

Impressions are those views by searchers and how long have they stayed to your site (bounce rate).
So when people have stayed long to your site, means you have high impression and low bounce rate. And when people tend to get out of your site in just a short time, you have low impression and high bounce rate which is bad.

In your case it's how many time a page with the keyword is visited.
Let's say you have a page with keyword "pitbull germany" on it, a page with the keyword "kirkland dog bed" , several pages (about me, service, etc)

so the impression you are asking is how many time the page with the keyword "pitbull germany" appears, when compared to an overall page visited on your site.

You can use it to watch what kind of info your visitors are up to. If they are mostly looking for "pitbull germany", you can put in some pitbull germany fav food, or anything that can only be used by a pitbull germany. Then, you can increase your earnings.
