New directory

Hello everyone,
Just bought a directory, and wondering how I can get people to sign up and submit their site. Well the site is RPGmode.com please let me know what to do. Want to do it like this if it works:
Featured links $5
Regular links $1
Regular links with reciprocal free

The best promotion is simply letting people on DP know about it. Try the Solicitations and Annoucements forum to solicit free listings, or if you are offering paid links try the Link Sales forum. Many people check these forums regularly, so you should get some action from them.

After that, the best promotions are all the typical onesyou have used on aother sites: buying text links, banner ads, article submissions, blogs, etc. Best of luck with your new directory.

also try to get listed in some of the directories of directories. Even when your own directory is new, sometimes they will still list you.

paid links only or are you going to offer any free submissions?

 

Well if you put a link to us it is free.

Do you think I should charge people or not. If I charge them, I am going to hire someone to build new thing for the site, so they can have more options.
If I say it is free then, I would have limited amount of money to spend on the site, since not making any money.

Thought of adding 16 or so web sites thiking that it is free.

Well, you can still make some money by offering free submissions as well as paid submissions (featureds or express reviews). But generally, you will make a little less on a free directory with ALOT more work to review all the sites that get submitted (hundreds daily with some decent promotion). So strictly paid submissions may be the route you want to go.

 

Well, the $1 you pay to submit, is going towards ads, and adding more options, so overall it is to your benefit. $1 is not really that much, but I can promise you, you will get solid traffic and better site and links down the road.

I am allowing free submissions with a reciprocal link. But everyone is asking for free links. I know if I go that way, I cannot promote the site, and offer them any useful thing, except a simple listing. But with paid, I can advertise on google and a few other sites. They get good results in return for their $1.
Plus $1 is almost nothing.

 

Don't bother with recips. No one wants a link exchange, they want a one-way link. And the very few recips you get will be very low-quality links. So do completely free or go paid. You seem to want to do the paid route (can't blame you). But if you are going to charge then you really should charge more than $1. Think about it. You would have to have HUGE numbers of submissions to build up any kind of sum that really good be put to good use. Also paypal gets a alot of that $1 for its fee.

It would be wiser to let DP Members populate your directory for free and than start charging a fee afterwards....
