Marketing/money making techniques needed for a new site - Serious advice needed

    Hello All,

I was going though previous posts, where different marketing techniques were discussed. However, most of them have almost been tried by everyone e.g writing articles or banner/link exchanges.

Ex: I just started a site 16 days ago. It basically is a video streaming site, which streams different collection of movie clips. In this short span of time, i have been able to get an average of 1050 unique visitors per day. There are more than 3000 members on my site. The site project started as a developing interest.

But right now, i am financially distressed since i have to pay my expenses for studies (which includes tuition etc.)

So basically, i have ads on my site - However, i have only been able to arrange arnd 20$ in revenue. I have put up a donation campaign, and urged members to assist the site. However, didnt recieve much of a response.

I approached a few webmasters for private advertising, however none of them looked positive. Most webmasters claim that traffic is they key to gain income from the site. However, that is not the case with me. Traffic is not a conern, but the main objective is to make more revenue.

In short, i am here to collect your advice to make more revenue out of my site. The link to my website is www.movietime.in

Your views will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your interest
    Cheers!

A few monetizing ideas for you:

    * Don't ask for donations. Instead make it more specific. Adding a "Buy Me a Beer" or "Buy Me a Coffee" link instead of "Donate Money" link increases donations by 200%!

    * Put up a marketplace where people can buy and sell movie memorabilia. Autographs and stuff.

    * Create a mailing list. Categorize it with Cities if you can. Once you have a decent sized mailing list for a specific city - you can then organize events. Approach movie theatres and ask them if they will allow a special screening for your audience. A lot of money can be made in group screenings. But this requires work offline.

I would also recommend of converting your site from a blog to a forum. Where anyone can post reviews of any movie (like imdb.com). That should bring in more traffic while reducing the amount of work you have to do.

Traffic IS in fact the key to earn revenue from your site, but it also depends what traffic comes to your website.
For example - a website about gardens was put up on the net, and was advertised in a major music website. The garden website got huge amount of traffic, but almost no revenue, because the traffic is not targeted and related.
That, or you just have bad ad placement on your website which doesn't produce efficient income to you.

Thank you very much for your ideas. They are simply brillant, and i have implemented them already to my site.
As i read other posts, i have started to realize that i used some wrong techniques in earning revenue from my site. Like for ex: a decent mailing list, article writing etc.

I also changed some placement of ads on my site. I am using bidvertiser btw .. Here are the statistics from my bidvertiser account:

    Impressions: 292,635
    Clicks: 159
    Revenue: $8.46

The data is from May 16, 2007 - Bidvertiser is giving me a real tough time with the revenue. I was rejected by adsense therefore i am still looking for a better site with high CPC and CPM.

I was referred to boostedads.com by a fellow member. I would like to get reviews from you guys on that.
I am really thankful to Ankesh, for his ideas. I am hopeful to explore through more strategies that can guarantee a good amount of money.

    CHeers!

Even if your site is not a traditional business website, you can earn money from it. All you need is targeted traffic and valuable content.
Here are other ways to earn:
    1. Google AdSense
    2. Affiliate Programs
    3. Sell Products
    4. Newsletter List
    5. Sell Advertising Space
    Many Thanks!

Dude, this thread has been dead for ages and his website is not even up anymore so why leave a
comment that does not help? Stick to threads that are active where you can actually help.
