Contest Update:

Today, the website owner and I went through almost all of the entries. He was very happy with many of the entries. His main comment was some entries look too much like generic templates. He wants something a little more unique. If you can, please uniquify your designs

Here is the layout we want (created by the website owner himself). Please modify your entries to this layout:


Remember to save your old design separately, just in case! Do not copy the little facebook logo or the grey footer as they belong to the DP user amir_daman who submitted an entry via PM. Feel free to use the logo at the top.

Please let me know if you guys have any questions. Specific comments on all designs will be finished within the next day.

The website owner said he thinks his logo is okay but if someone can make one that he likes more, he would love it!

We are not stuck to any one idea. The website owner prefers a white/grey background similar to his design, but he will accept anything that looks good to his eyes.

Yes, please use the menu items from that design. Remember the 'featured girl' in the menu and bottom of the page.

I think that is fair enough since it took me a while to get comments back to you guys. The contest will end on Saturday, March 26 at exactly 11:59pm Pacific Time. No late entries, please. Ah thanks for the time extension...i was afraid i wouldnt be able to send in my entry within the time limit. Im still working on it.

I like the simplicity of the design. We should stay away from military helicopters though. Also, I think using less colours would be a plus. We want just a couple of colours for this design. One of the comments the website owner had on this design (as he had for several others as well) is that it looks much like a standard template you can buy online and besides the pictures had nothing for the helicopter theme.

Wow, it's nice to see some vector work from time to time. I am a big fan. Though vector art is a big plus it can be annoying to find someone to code it. So just use whichever is easier for you as the end result is about the same for me

I like how you created a custom icon. This is the type of thing we are going for with this contest. I also really like the little Facebook thing in the right sidebar as well as the sample ads. What I would like to see to improve this design further is: better typography in the post text and top menu, no more pale green colour (try just black and white). Lastly, I like it when you guys put in a couple of sample posts for these entries. It helps me better judge the design in full. I understand it is a little more work but it is much appreciated!

I liked this entry. You did a excellent job with the typography and colour on this design! It was one of both mine and the owner's favourites upon first seeing it. Later, the owner told me he did not like it as much as before because of the wooden header background. It looks amazing but really has nothing to do with helicopters. The owner decided he did not like it so much because it makes it look like a template design.

Lastly, I would love to see the bottom half of the design.

I liked the above design best of your entries. I liked the black background more and I liked the commercial (as opposed to military) copter at the top. This goes for everyone: In the pictures and design elements, please use commercial helicopters instead of military ones. If unsure, just ask. This is very important to the owner since the two are completely different businesses!

For the design, I would love to see a little more structure in the posts as well as some typography and spacing on the post text. Also, the text does not need to take up so much of the page. The pictures should be the main focus with a little text to describe each picture.

I love these minimalistic designs. This is in the direction we want to go. I also like the black and white combo. That is also the direction we want. I would love to see some more styled typography on the menu and post text. For those that do not know what I mean by that: I just want some more spacing in the paragraph text and some unique, good-looking fonts used in the menu (but nothing too crazy please).

I would love to see a finished footer as well as some breaks between the posts or something to separate them.

This entry is a big improvement over your first submission! Nice job!

Some of the same comments from the above design also apply here. I'd love to see a better font in the menu and better use of font spacing in the paragraph text.

I didn't like the outline effect in the logo but that is minor.

Great use of the little Facebook, Twiiter, RSS icons at the top of the sidebar. The website will not start with any ads on it so it is important to have something in the sidebar besides ads. Also, big props to everyone who uses actual ads on their designs. Even something more would be nice.

Your footer is great. Love the abreviated 'mag' and fonts you used.

The design is really good. I love the little logo your created and liked how you also used it at the bottom of the website.

Some general comments on the design by the owner:
He prefers the post title to be under the picture like on Uncrate.
He prefers the BLADES in the title of the website to be in blue similar to the logo he created. He also wants the title to be big.

I would love to see a black and white colour scheme for this design instead of the dark blue and orange used.

This design should be minimalistic so the following elements could be erased: the underline under the post titles, the half-circles to the left of posts, the 'about' and 'subscribe' bubbles at the top.

Lots of comments but this was a great design.
