I'd just like to know your opinions when it comes to spelling mistakes and SEO.

Is it a wise idea to base your keywords on perhaps a very popular word which has been misspelt purposely gaining the traffic of those that search for the wrong term, accidentally?

I was thinking about whether it would be easier to 'brand' a misspelt word rather than use keywords with a lot of competition?

No it is not a wise idea. If you have noticed when you mispelled a word Google detects the mistake and suggests you the right word.

Maybe people did not noticed that they mispelled the word and enter your site. The visitor may not be interested in the content of you web page and will exit.

I suggest you link building rather than mispelled words.

I have used this strategy and still using for some sites.

I like to do this with celebrity names, people are searching like crazy for celebrities and if you can predict common mistakes, you can get loads of visitors.

its a risky move since very few users are getting mistakes in putting their query, you might waste your time and effort working on work keyword.

If the keywords are too saturated, then I think this might be the quickest way to get searched.
Do it occasionally should be fine.

Its not a wise idea. Misspelt word in Internet search is a common thing due to some reason, Search engines like Google tries to correct the users by providing ‘suggestions’ to correct the word. So, don't waste your time. Its works only for some people.

For this research is important because we can know that how much search occurred on spelling mistake keywords.

I don't think it is a wise idea to use misspelt works in web pages for keyword ranking. Now Google is giving more relevancy to the quality of content than before. So we should not use it.

i agree with him. it only works for some people and that people are too less for a good conversation rate.
it could work in special cases but only peripherally.

I wouldn't rely on it. Google can change that pretty quickly, I think instant killed a lot of misspellings and long tails.

Misspellings aren't the best way to go. Google could change things anytime. As it is, Google often includes the correctly spelled word in the search results so it wouldn't work unless it was badly misspelled.

I guess there some stuffs in the web that are misspelled.. Syntax and spellings are better if they're misspelled or tweaked. For instance, in domain names like, flickr.com, tumblr.com, etc.. having a misspelled keywords within a domain could be a good way to acquire website traffic covertly. Still, caution must always be taken.
