I read all the way about 5 domains or unlimited domain hosting, but have no idea how to add another domain / site on my hosting plan.

How can I do that with Hostgator hosting with Cpanel ?

Only with virtual private servers (VPS) or your own dedicated server.

email support at hostgator. . . the will help you point the domain to a sub-directory where your index file will sit for that domain

well, do as niceboy mentioned, this gives you add-on domain which is a totally different site and domain than your main site and works with your existing plan:)

Yep, you just need to set up an add on domain and of course point your name servers to your host. Notice in cpanel you have an option for subdomains and an option for add on domains, this is because their not the same thing. :)

this is a must for hostgator as they wouldn't allow you to add your add-on domain unless you've updated your add-on domain nameservers:)

Does having a site as add-on domain have any disadvantage compared to a completely separate site?

no disadvantage as such but should be used only for your own sites and not when you host for others as all these sites will share a single cpanel/login info:)

I'm not sure about HostGator but I recently just switched to the NorthBoard.com Deluxe Hosting..100GB of space and 1000GB of transfer...I have 25 sites through it right now and they said I shouldn't have any problem loading up more. I use Dreamweaver to load to my FTP etc... and it is pretty damn easy...I'm not to bright when it comes to this stuff, just getting started into it and have a stack of books and stuff on my desk to reference to. The tech support there is pretty cool, they typically aren't supposed to help out in situations non-related to their products, but have always walked me through on the phone to get the situation handled. I couldn't do what I do without their help. Some of the other registrars let me down in their customer support so I started transfering names about a month ago....

I created an add-on domain about 7 months ago, but Google has not indexed the site. Does anybody know if these "add-on" domains get panalized or ignored by the SE's, like they are spam sites? And yes, I do have external links pointing to the "add-on" domain, so it should have been picked up by Google a long time ago.
