Since you live in an apartment, a small dog would be best and it also would have a bark that is not so loud. Toy breeds or a designer mixed toy breed usually have good personalities. You have to spend some time with the dog or it will feel lonely and then may become destructive to get attention from you by tearing up things. You may want an adult dog that is already housetrained. Puppies take up a lot of time because you will be housetraining and teaching behavior skills. Hope this helps!
How much time exactly is "not much time" ? To be completely honest you're going to need to take a dog for walks, spend some time with them every day, and train them (or if getting an older dog learn how they are trained.) I have a chocolate lab, if you have the room they are some of the nicer dogs you can get. If you are looking for something smaller a Corgi as mentioned a couple posts back is also a good idea. Honestly though a lot of it depends on how much time you actually have to spend with the dog. (If you get a puppy you'd have to spend a lot more attention to them.) If you want something you don't need to take all of the time in the world with a cat might be a better option.
There is so much negativity towards a dog, honey better you get a friend who can share apartment with you, if you feel lonely Obviously, if its a dog, you have to give time to train him/her or he will mess your place for sure. Ofcourse there are, he will not be loyal to you and he might not even listen to you sometimes, because he is used to someone else. In my opinion I would advice you to go for smaller dogs like teddy bear dogs, they might create less nuisance at your place.
It's a great idea, the Corgi is the best dog for the zombie apocalypse. (No this is not my site, this is just a public service announcement.)
